Why do so many people bash unions but yet all the companies listed here are non union? The other common thing people say is unions are bad for a company but yet Sitton, C Bean, and other companies were all non union and went out.

People who have had a bad experience are 10 times more likely to tell someone that a person who has had a good experience.

Some of the people bashing companies on here just were not cut out for the industry, got into it not knowing what trucking is truly like, and can't put the blame where it belongs.

As far as companies going out of business, over 3000 companies went out of business in 2008. Companies of various sizes. There were many factors involved in that including the cost of fuel, bad business management, bad vehicle maintenance (which affects the rates you can get on freight and who will have you haul their freight).

Most, and I do say Most union companies are LTL and more local that OTR. Have you taken a look at the condition of the equipment of some of the union companies? Some of those companies have some pretty rough looking equipment, just as some of the OTR companies have some pretty rough looking equipment.

A bad business model will drive any company in any industry out of business, whether union or not.

Majority of the members here are OTR truckers, which is why you hear more about the non-union outfits. There are not many union OTR companies.

And what do you say about some of the major Union companies that have gone out over the years? CF, Preston, Advance, Murphy, etc?

It pretty simple to see that there are more NON union companies in general, that's one reason why you see more of those same companies listed here. Union companies also have their problems.

This guy is clearly a union lackey who has been brainwashed by the brass. This is a statement he made in a different thread

Unions, nothing like joining an "organization" that forces you to pay dues and wont listen to your opinion if it's different then their own.

The only people the union looks out for is, the union.
They care NOTHING for the workers.

This is coming from a former CWA union member.

Nice of you to take a snippit of what I said. Of course I would much rather work at a union place than Swift anyday. But I say again you dont hear any horror stories in here about union companies. And for all the bashing of them they only represent about 8 percent of the workforce.

You dont? What about YRC workers having to take paycuts, or ABF on shakey ground? How about Standard Forwarding filing bankruptcy? Those aren't horror stories?

Those stories are out there, you just choose to close your eyes and ears to them.
