If they're just bobtailing, they'd still have brakes. I've had to drive a truck like that, the tractor supply valve went bad, it still stopped just fine. Now the trailer's a different story, but they'd still have tractor brakes. It'd be enough to get it stopped.

My uncle is an O/O, and i asked him about truck thefts. His answer to prevention was a battery disconnect that he installed on his truck for the batteries. The switch is under his battery box. He has a 2002 Peterbilt 379. He also installed a cover plate over his starter/battery terminals, so someone couldnt just "screwdriver" the starter.
Also he has in the works of taking the 6 notch keys(like the ones off of vending machines) and installing them in his doors.

Hey guys, have seen several hits to our website semi-locks.com, and thought I would see what was going on. Yes, with a crow bar the War Lok air brake lock and most others can be removed. You can also go under the hood and disable the air brake all together.
Most locks are considered theft deterants. Like mentioned before, if someone wants your truck bad enough, they will find a way.
Again, thanks for visiting our site, and if we can help anyone out, give me a shout.

good point, it'd just stop with the front brakes...never thought of that until now!

O.k. So some of you are right. If they want the truck bad enough then they will get it. But here is what I was told. Make YOUR truck the more difficult truck to steel. The longer it takes a guy to get in, and get rolling, the better a chance he has of getting caught, and so he will chose another truck, or get out, when someone starts to approach (I.E at a rest stop). But I think there are some pretty good ideas being put out here, Like covering the starter switch, better door locks, etc. Think about it. If a guy sees that he has to break a window, that might be enough of a deterent. They don't want to do anything that will attract attention. This must be a problem because this thread is pretty active. I am gona do some of these things, and I know I will at least feel a little safer. At least now, if they get my truck their gona have to work for it. Here is what I am doing. Air Lock from the company I listed earlier, cover over the starter terminals, in dash starter solinoid iterrupt marked with a misleading name. And I am looking at special door locks. I know they can bust the glass, but that is much more dramatic then just shoving a screw driver in the door lock. I am curious about how you can disable the air brakes from under the hood?

Well, if I'm not mistaken, you'd still have brakes on all three axles. I think the tractor supply valve just supplies air to the spring side of the maxi chambers, it doesn't effect the pressure to the service side of the chambers. I think most road tractors just have maxis on the front drive anyway, so at the very least you'd still have two axles worth of brakes.

Buzz, there is more than likely a solenoid that controls the brakes?

If you paid someone to get you here, that person will close and lock the doors, then return for another group.

Locking the doors will make this much more difficult. Not impossible, but much more difficult.

    Nope, strictly air operated.
