Just moved to IL from CO. I have a job with Fedex Freight but due to the merger that happened with National they just can't get their act together. I'm not getting 40 hours and am on-call. I'm kind of expecting a lay-off soon. Too many workers were kept on.
Looking for similar pay $20-24 an hour, no OTR, good benefits, overtime offered, day or afternoon shifts... can anyone help me with some good companies out here? I thought central transport looked decent until I found this forum. I could really use some feedback being new to IL.
New to Western burbs in IL- need some good local/city/P&D companies

Conway ltl has an add for Elgin I believe
-
Do you know much about Conway? I heard that their medical doesn't go into affect until you've worked there a year. That just doesn't sound possible though.
-
i think r&l was looking and maybe estes
-
have you looked into any of the gas and fuel hauling outfits out there?

Good luck! I moved up to McHenry area and lasted two years before I left. You live in a high priced area. Most P&D I checked up there, you have to work your way up through the ranks to get a day route.
Alot of companies up there advertise on CareerBuilder.com. Check out Monster.com also.
Before I went back OTR I got a job offer. I can't remember the company, but they handle True Value Hardwares freight. You might search that out. You leave out early morning and pallet jack the freight on a route. Home everyday. They make in the high 50's. They are about 40 miles north of you.
There's also alot of grocery store distribution centers around you if that interest you. -
conway or ups freight are the only big payers out there other than fed ex , have fun , been in the chicago area for 25 years and unless your willing to go OTR you anit gonna make money because of the cheap labor sources of poland /ukraine / mexico , and 2nd mistake living in one of the most expensive suburbs don't help either ..

ABF is hiring full-time for both city p&d drivers and road drivers at there Chicago Heights, IL terminal. Chicago is a very Union town and if I were you and was looking for a good job I would call Teamsters Local 705 or Local 710. Both are located in the Chicago area. Let me know if you need anymore info than that, I will help in anyway possible.
-
You sure are not asking for much are you? Considering about 100 guys just lost their union jobs in gas business there are some non union out there yellow roadway hasn't had their pension paid in like 3 years, there's like crap available unless you know someone you can call 705 but they have like 300 members looking for work

schneider intermodal is hiring. If they don't have positions in local - regional is awailable for sure and those guys get home everynight anyway. They deliver loads within 250 miles radius instead of Chicago suburbs. Money is ok too - up to 70k possible. No touch freight. I actually prefer regional over local. Schneiderjobs.com
