Wedge, I'm glad things are working out for you and hope you're able to get back out there soon. I am a wannabe also and have been reading your posts from the beginning and it's given me a lot of good insight on the business. I am currently in the Navy and will be retiring after 25 yrs in October and driving OTR has always been a dream of mine and I cannot wait to get out there and hopefully meet some of you good people one day.
Roadrunner1408 how are you. Thanks for your service bro!!Wedge and Roadrunner1408 Thank this. -
This is my opinion only, and I'd be interested to see what experienced truckers have to say about it, but I would be very suspicious of any schools that GUARANTEE placement ANYWHERE. They may be able to help you get your CDL and may be able to put you in contact with trucking companies, but it seems to me that whether or not you actually get placed is largely up to you.
There are a lot of schools out there, and some are better than others. Research the schools and the trucking companies very carefully. What part(s) of the country will you consider for a school?Wedge and Roadrunner1408 Thank this. -
Thank vmwelker for the input. I would like to stay here in Phoenix for the schooling as there are many here to choose from. I talked with several schools and they said they they will place you with a job. Do not know the validity of it but I am only as good as the info I get. My search isn't over but thanks for the advice.

Navyguy your welcome and thank you for your service as well. 25 years seems to be the magic number...LOL Figured it is time for a change and truck driving looks to be a definate change. I have a good feeling about it but can't say for sure with out getting out there on my own and experiencing the pros and cons for myself. I have had my fair share of climate changes, long hours, small quarters, and people from all walks of life...do not see how this can be any different

sorry typo on my part "you're"

100% agree about the change and the way I see it is if you can handle 25yrs of military service, you can handle anything. Good look to you man and hopefully we can meet up on the road some day.
Roadrunner1408 Thanks this. -

My thoughts exactly. Its a big place out there (on the road) but then again over the 25 years how many times did you run into somebody that you thought you would never see again? It happened to me all the time mostly overseas in the weirdest places. So based on that I would say our chances are pretty good.
