and i am in the grand rapids division. i live in flint, mi. me and my dm get along great but truck break down dictates were trucks are fixed and other that a blown out tire in the middle of nowhere kansas. i have been force to limp trucks back. one of my 4 trucks blow a head gasket and was burning it's anti freeze. they made me drive that truck back from breezewood, pa at 50mph no heat and it took 15gals of anti freeze to get back to grand rapids.

I know ours is fixing to explode, I mean seriously it really does sound like its grinding gears when idling. Plus the service engine light keeps coming on every single time we drive it for about 1 hour it will come on. I've told them this 1000x times its on the QC now I am just waiting for it to explode so I can throw a hissy fit. >=D

i've been corrected 300 new trailers have been discussed not ordered...sorry about that. -
w/ repairs it doesnt matter what your relationship w/ your dm is...he might schedule a better load or get you somewhere specific , or schedule maintenance at a terminal etc...
your dm isnt going to get you to a freightliner dealership to fix your problem that is safety related. he isnt going to get breakdown to approve a tire replacement on the side of the road or at a customer or a rest area.
i have talked to senior management when i have had problems, they basically say what breakdown says..you need to take it to a ta (even if they cant do anything) or take it to a terminal.
only thing that MIGHT help is if you call the safety department, sometimes theyll help. -
i now have truck number 5. this is my 4Th truck in about 2 and half months since coming back from injury(rotator cuff tear) the last truck they sold...it almost had a million miles on it. you should've seen the truck they tried to assign me. walls were ripped out missing cabinets exposed wires body beat to hell....well after seeing that i raised holy hell and finally cooler heads prevailed and i now have what is considered a better truck but still old and not a new truck as i want very badly. i just want something reliable and new and if it breaks down on the road it has a warranty to get it fixed and i don't have to limp it back to a terminal.

i heard in a safety meeting that they will resolve safety related breakdown issues,i havent actually had them help me... in my previous post i might of made it sound like they had,i do intend on calling safety when i have a safety related issue that breakdown wont authorize, which shouldnt be long.

personally im thinking about just taking a paycut and going local if i can find a position, even if its 3-400 less takehome pay.
im not "down with the struggle" anymore. -
good luck. i'm waiting to get a felony cleared off my record next week and i'm off to go to transport in bay city, mi better equipment more miles per week and money per mile and home every 10-12days
-
i wouldnt be too concerned about miles per week. pay can vary from $ /hr,salary or %...even for otr.. i would focus on dollars per hr of your time,i dont want to grind out 3500 miles per week,i do ok w/ what i have.
i wouldnt go to another otr company, period. it isnt worth it, lose my manager,my seniority, vacation time...
i do ok here,for an OTR company that is...one w/ terrible equipment,bad maintenance and archaic idle policies...but i do fine.Last edited: Feb 27, 2011

i guess i agree with you on the seniority thing and vacation stuff. i been here now 14months and i'm really annoyed with the trucks and dispatch. truth be told i don't wanna leave and have to do another orientation but this company really pisses me off at times. my dm....i don't like him and i don't hate him he's....o.k.
i really hate weekend dispatch and a good cause for that would be mornings like this. i get a pounding knock on my door, i jump up to see who what it is...another ss driver here to drop off a swap??????????????? what swap????????? weekend dispatch put me on a swap and didn't tell me about it. so now there all pissed because i want wake up and deliver it on time. but i will deliver it 5-6hrs later than the time it was set for delivery 9am.
