Im new to trucking and start orientation this month. I was jus wondering what i could expect at truck stops when i pull in to sleep? Im only 21 and kinda small. Will i have a big problem with people trying to rob me and mess with me all the time? what are some things i could do to keep safe and get a good nights sleep?

Lock your doors....be respectful with confidence, not in a timid, fearful sort of way. That's about all I got.

Really have nothing to worry about for the most part,if you get to a rough one do your 10 and leave and don't go back. There are only a handful of ts I wouldn't go back to.All the drivers are pretty cool and just take care of there business and if asked usually will help.Worry more about doing the job right. IMO
Flying Dutchman Thanks this. -
stop watching all those stupid trucker movies from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and now...
drive on in, find a spot (if you can), here east of the Mississippi river, you want to be in ANY truck stop by 4 PM, maybe 5 PM latest to find a parking spot.
when in the truck stop, do not cut anyone off in any line, whether it be the fuel desk line, hot dog line, bathroom line, all you can eat buffet line.
if you have a truck with a "JAKE BRAKE", DO NOT have it turned on as you drive around the truck stop looking for a parking space....that alone will get the sheet kicked outta you...
that's about it... -
Thanks for all the info. What about going from my truck to the truck stop and back? Any pointers there?

Just watch out for the other trucks going through the lot. Make sure they can also see you.

Walking is good, unless you really have pee than you can run.
Ohhh stay away from any truck stop in gary, in except to get fuel. -
Good advice and never walk behind a truck. May be a few more steps, but it's a whole safer walking in front of the truck..Hitman Thanks this.
