A few months ago, Ohio started writing tickets for being off route for stopping anywhere other than a rest park or weigh station. You aren't allowed to stop for any reason anywhere else. Just pulling onto an off ramp will get you a ticket.

That would be pretty hard to enforce. Unless they caught you just screwing around you could always say it was safety issue and you took 1st safe exit. Most will let you stray a little to eat, fuel , motel, etc. And I mean a little. Not 4 miles down some hwy not on your permits.

Freehardwoods is correct. You are not allowed to exit in OH unless it is on your permit. Not to get fuel, not to stop, not at all. You can put a fuel stop on the route. I have heard reports of DOT officers checking permits of oversize loads going to fuel stops. My drivers often stop at Millersport, OH when traveling East on 70. There is a scale just beyond this at Cambridge, OH. We have received warnings for not showing a stop on our permits. If you cross the scale less than 2 hours after daylight, and don't show a fuel stop on your route, they can assume that you had to stop somewhere because there are no rest areas within 2 hours of the scale. Now we just order all permits with a fuel stop, whether they use it or not.

Hi Redd, That book is only a guide. That thing has alot of wrong info.
    Good reference though.
I mainly use it for the time table for sunrise and sunset.
Buddy of mine got lucky last week.
Flew around St. Louis last week in curfew.
Got out to Forrestell and got his butt chewed out.
    No fines. Lucky arse.
Also Il. in their provison sheet is like Oh. You CAN NOT CROSS A BRIDGE unless on your rte.
You can go under one to fuel and park, But do not cross over one.
Drop it at the rest area and bobtail to a fuel stop

OR requires 8' banners....Don't even think of crossing into Ashland with a DOT legal 84" banner.....

Banners in OR cannot have holes in them....
They cannot have grease or dirt....
And don't block a license plate with a banner........

Truckingman, in California you are not required to run flashing lights on the tractor. If the truck is engaged in the towing of houses or buildings, or the load is longer than 75' and an unusual traffic hazard exists, the truck may be equipped with a flashing amber lights to the front, rear and sides (California Vehicle Code 25263, and 25275). There are no mentions in any of the permit conditions where the truck is required to have flashing lights. That being said, I have only been asked to turn off my flashing light once by the CHP when I was , lets say a little dim going through the scale empty.

Truckingman, in Oregon you are required to have flashing lights on your tractor for any load that is 10' wide or more on 2 lane roadways and 12' wide or more on 4 lane roads (according to Special Transportation Permit Attachment 82A). Working Class Patriot is spot-on with the banner requirements. My OS sign was 4" to short (side to side) and I was the lucky recipient of a nice fine that was about $115. Make sure it says what it's supposed to and correct size, the 82A has all that in it. In Nevada you will have to have a Amber Light Permit from the Nevada Highway Patrol, which costs $2.00 per vehicle. If your trailer has flashing lights on it, you must also have a permit for that vehicle as well.

I believe GasHauler was referring to lovesthedrive's comment about having to have the flashers on when traveling 10mph below the posted speed limit. I too would like to see a reference to that. In CA, there is no where I can find that requirement in the vehicle code and I only remember seeing a sign that said slow moving vehicles use flashers in Utah.
