With all the rule changes that are in the works that many people want to push through I will it is important to know who we need to look at and place blame on. So here we go. Speed limiter supporters as rerported in the OOIDA magazine Land Line: The ATA. Who is the ATA and who do they repersent? I know it stands for American Trucking Association, but I'm not a member of it. Are you? Road Safe America. I looked those folks up. They had a child get killed because of a careless truck driver. Sad but they are looking to punish us all. Sad but true. Schneider National, C.R. England, H.O. Wolding, ATS Intermodal, Dart Transit Co., J.B. Hunt Transport, U.S. Xpress, Covenant Transport, and Jet Express have all filed similar petitions. Now why would fellow truckers want to do that to us??? Hmmmm. Very interesting.
Now with this whole hours of service revamp they wanna do. Public Citzen is the group that is trying to stuff this down our throats. Again, another group that is repersenting me that was not asked to. So I say: WTF? How can anybody be ok with less freedoms? Really? Are you really ok with that idea?![]()

I think you answered your own question. You would likely be better off walking a picket line in some truck stop with a sign. I think you would see better results than what OOIDA will get. I've had it with their hot air...
Roadmedic Thanks this. -
I'm not saying the OOIDA is the answer but without a complete strike it'd never work either. The above companies and the ones like them would take the freight. So since striking is not the answer what is? Shutting up and taking it like a new prisoner in prision their first night is not my idea of a answer either. Upsetting the right people may help. Makes me feel better anyway. Lol!

All truckers should unite and unionize.
Repo Thanks this. -
The ATA for the most part is the freight companies--always have been--now since the demise of many of the LTL carriers some of the larger truckload carriers have become members--that is what the push for lower speed limits and speed limiters on trucks is all about--they want a level playing field--If all trucks were set # 65 and had stricter enforcement--with no team split sleeper etc--the large LTL especially knows they can once again compete on service--that is why so many of the LTL carriers are using o/o and smaller company fleets to run their coast to coast freight--an o/o 75+mph team truck can outrun BigR/Yellow etc--thus providing better service transit times. But if that truck must run 65 and has to take at least 4 hours off a day--with the rules they want to push--the giants know they can compete--the ltl systems are actually pretty time effective--with relay and terminal slipseats--they rarely have to stop long.....Anyway the ATA got involved--to act like they care about safety--but it is a ruse!
Just my $.02 -
the day I Have to join a union to drive a truck is the day I hang up the keys. With the govt crawling down our throats I don't need someone else telling me when and how I can work. They had their time early in the century, now they're money grabbing theives and can take a hike as far as I'm concerned
Auctioneer, AXE, Tazz and 1 other person Thank this. -
I agree, the unions were needed back in the day and have now become corrupt like the government.
I have read a thread that talked about shutting down Washington for a few days. That makes more sense to me than anything. It would only take a few trucks to shut down an interstate.
A block-aid, a tea party, this would get the attention of the government and the country. With the threat of it happening again and again as needed until the truckers voice is heard and action is being taken. -
A true blockade is not needed. All you need is a truck in each lane doing the speedlimit around the beltway. (Or any major highway through town) Imagine the chaos.

DING WE HAVE A WINNER!! It's not hard to under stand , why do so many drivers not understand this? -
its all the big companies getting together trying to push the smaller companies and owner operators out of business.....like steve williams you know when jimmy carter de-regulated the trucking industry thats when he started maverick when it was easy and the rules were not like they are today and now he is one of the main supporters of the new laws and regulations and on board recorders and all that crap......he is pushing hard right along side schneider,jb,swift, and all them big companies so that way there will only be the BIG COMPANIES left to fight it out for freight......the harder they can make it for o/o's and small fleets the better they think it will be......this industry needs to be de-regulated again but we dont have to worry about that because obama just announced the other day along side felipe calderon that the u.s is fixing to start letting mexican trucks come across the border and roam our highways and thats a problem for everyone of us company drivers and o/o's alike because you think freight is cheap now wait until the mexicans get here.....companies will pay them far less to haul a load into mexico then they will to an american company just to haul it to the border....times are fixing to get extremely difficult mark my words......who is going to make sure the mexicans are only driving 11 hours a day?....how will they enforce our rules we go by on them? which one of your family members is going to have to be killed by some mexican driver who didnt understand the road sign or isnt following the rules for us american truckers to take a stand against them? i hope nobodys......but these big companies will get what is coming to them when they open the borders because they are the ones who mostly haul to the border......lol
