Obama also announced that the two North American neighbors have reached preliminary agreement on allowing Mexican trucks to use U.S. highways, removing a major roadblock to improved relations.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_mexico

:biggrin_25510: The Obama Administration folded and the American Trucking Association sold out every single American trucker they are supposed to represent. This "deal" does not serve the interests of the United States. It serves the interests of a select group of businesses who want cheaper freight. Forget about national security, forget that the Mexican government can't control the daily murders and violence like it's the wild west, forget the fact that drugs and human traffickers are crossing our unsecured borders on a daily basis, and don't worry about the fact that we have no way to monitor driver credentials originating from a corrupt government. How does this "deal" address any of those concerns? Any trucker who continues to support the ATA after this is selling themselves out. This program will drive rates into the ground and run American companies out of business because we have higher costs of living and doing business than they do down in Mexico. The final result will be the transfer of control over our food supply chain into the hands for foreign nationals. Can someone give me one reason why in the world any American trucker would support this?

The good news is: This deal must first pass through Congress to be approved.

    Do not hold your breath.

It has been the goal of the idiots in Washington since NAFTA was negotiated by Daddy Bush and ramrodded by Slick Willie.

They still have to pass the same inspections and test IN ENGLISH to drive here so there may be 2 or 3 new trucks on the road...At least that's my understanding from a previous read...Hopefully just like foreign pilots and planes have to pass FAA inspections and tests to fly here(which is why 99% of the world's pilots train here)...

How will you feel when a Mexican truck pulls into the space next to you at the truckstop? He will be hauling a load that a US truck should have gotten. He will be paid a few cents per mile, the freight charge will be less than dirt cheap. It ain't gonna be pretty, it's going to get ugly real fast. Any trucker that intends to vote Obama in 2012 is a scab.

It has to be approved by Congress first. Not a done deal yet.
