I was doing some research about seeing if there was any loophole for driving interstate while under 21. I found that some states issue non-resident CDL's. I was thinking hey, that fits my bill, don't have to illiegally hold 2 CDL's and I can just get a non-resident CDL and be good to go. I called up my bordering state I mostly wish to drive in and asked about getting one. I was told that this is strictly for those who are not citizens. I then quoted to him that these were for 'those who'se place of citizenship's cdl is not recognized by our state' or something real close to that, I then explained to him that I live in WY, and ID does not recognize my WY CDL, therefore I thought I was eligable. Sounds to me like the government's got it written to make life easier for those who are not citizens more than thier own.
Man that felt good to get that off my shoulders and on to the Interwebs.:smt038

OK, Then you can drive in ID only. Federal regulations state you must be 21 to drive interstate. You didn't beat the system, just have to drive only in one different state.
-
I live 12 miles from the ID border, why is it I can legally drive 360 miles to the east, but not 15 miles to the west?
-
There are loads hauled every day that are 'illiegal', they get permits that make them 'legal'. Can I get a permit to do what I want to do?
-
No.............but why don't you park the truck in Idaho. Run in Idaho and do not leave Idaho with the truck? Or run for a Idaho company and stay intrastate?Lilbit Thanks this.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. If only I could cross the state line I could make more money. How about this. Join the USMC, drive their trucks in Iraq and you won't have to concern yourself about state lines. When you get discharged you will have years of experience and no problems here either.
USMC379 PETE Thanks this. -
The problem with that is that a lot of companies will not count that as experience. He probably would have to start with a bottom feeder company. They only care about domestic interstate experience.
-
Well I'm working trying to take over our family business, the majority of job sites themselves are in WY, but they are starting to haul a lot of material in to and out of ID because costs are getting so high here. I'm not worried about having experience where we own our own business. As far as the Military goes,I would be more interested in the Red Horse division of the Air Force.

There used to be a loophole in the interstate part for under 21.
You list on paper that it is your own product.
Then show you are selling it to somebody else, but you are delivering it to them.
Look it up, still might be on the books. Not sure.
Just make sure on paper you can prove you own said trk/ trl. and product -
Not that I have ever seen. Unless your driving a vehicle that does not meet the definition of a CMV. i.e personal car.
