nothing wrong with NYC only thing wrong with going in there with a truck is the newbreed truck drivers that don't plan their route or know how to read signs they see a sign that says clearance 9' 0" they turn down another road to go around it when all along the truck will pass under it thats why it's marked as a truck route take the bronx for instance when you get off the ramp to go to the market and you pass up under the subway trussel overhead the signs say 9' clearance but you can make it under just fine thats why it is the designated truck route into the market.thats why I have always told people back when I was a trainer many moons ago "READ THE SIGNS"

How is it in New York once you're inside? I mean sure there's probably tones of traffic.
I'd probably be on Google Street view going through every inch through there on my computer first.
But how are these places once you get there? Are they ungodly little tiny places, or do they have enough room once you get in their lot?
I went into one in Buffallo that was bad enough. Had to drive around because you have to come in from the other way, then it's a blindside back into the dock while blocking traffic on a state route.
Then you have to worry about the employee cars that are parked right up to the lane you're backing into when your trailer is backing into the yard.lunaglow Thanks this. -
It's not any worse than Chicago or Boston. There are tight places and places with more room. I didn't know about the snowpack signs my fisrt time to Long Island. I ended up in downtwn Queens going under the unsigned for clearance ell trying to get back to the freeway going the right direction. Loads of fun, there. Backed up traffic briefly, but they got over it.

Don't say you won't go somewhere yet...have you gone anywhere yet as a driver...your info box says student.
NYC proper you probably won't go into downtown NYC...but Burroughs yes. Like Injun said some are tight some are wide open...and like Atlanta most places are not in the tight zone...size restrictions and other ordinances. Bronx, Queens, Long Island to name a few yes the freight does go there. But don't say "no way" until you have at least tried it once. Just like your vegetables when you were a child...try em before you decide you don't like em!
You might just find it is actually exciting to have conquered the Big Apple! Then you might want to go back again and again. Then you will become a preferred NYC area driver for some planner...friends can make strange bedfellows..and the planners are the best friends you can have!panhandlepat and lunaglow Thank this. -
Biker,now thats just plain mean.

I used to work in NYC, and I left the driving to the guy in the in the front of the train. Hour and half train ride from Newburgh to Grand Central. Totally sucked so bad I moved to Saudi Arabia. That was a experience but it sucked in its own way. You just chalk it up as lifes experiences.lunaglow Thanks this. -
Go where ever they send you...there are going to be tough places to get in and out of everywhere. Backing into a Sears dock in a mall can be real trouble in any town or wait till you deliver something to some mom and pop outfit in the middle of nowhere and you have to back up a quarter mile on a dirt path to their freakin barn...lol
lunaglow Thanks this. -
I deliver to NYC everyday...Bronx..Brooklyn and LI everyday...Its really not that bad Use common sense and if u have a problem ask one of the gazillion day cab guys running around (like myself) Alot of us including me will give u good information. Such as the Knight driver who was wondering around Elizabeth NJ trying to find I-95. Man Up Sometimes u have to take that Big Ole truck into the city, again common sense goes a LONG way.

It's amazing how people want to go into a job with conditions. Especially when they know what the job entails before they apply. If there are aspects of the job that you feel you don't want to do, and that you will refuse to do when called upon, then find something else.
In my career for the last 20 years there were things that I didn't really like to do, but when I was dispatched I went and did it anyway. Because it was my JOB.Cudascious, MackDaddyMark, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this.
