Wanted to touch on some stupid laws. You can add more stupid laws.

    STUPID LAW #1.
    Hours of Service.

Yea, what the problem is and nobody is talking about is the hours of service. Like it's taboo or something. The law sucks, and all the drivers suck it (including me), because of the law. The law needs to be changed and the greedy corporation use this to turn the table in their favor. I think everyone with paper log lies. Well 99% of them for sure. The cops know this, its just they have to have evidence for that lie to put you out of service. It's a law, few people abide by and few
LAW OFFICERS enforce. There should be no such law. Let the drivers drive as much as they want. I don't see any such law for 4 wheelers? or 2 wheelers? If the government can tell us when to drive then they should do the same for everybody. That's discrimination. - So I can drive my car 24 hours straight? - No problem there. - 48 hours? - Yea, why not? If there will be such a law then I think all the truck drivers should vote on it. Am I right or not. The people who write the law, along with the people who vote on it and most of the people who enforce it have never even sat in a big rig. - What the hell do they know about trucking? - What the hell do they know? - They know how to make money, that's what. What I think would be fare is let all the people who write the law, vote on it, and enforce it, all of them be forced to drive trucks for at least 6 months and obey that law. And be paid minimum driver wage. I want to see how they like them apples. Accidents happen all the time, and as long as there are fast moving heavy vehicles, accidents will continue to happen. Even if its computer controlled. What computers don't make mistakes? They crash all the time. There are so many viruses. Machinery wears and parts brake. That's life. What the law should be is this. Truck drivers decide when he/she is safe to drive. He also logs it somehow (paper or e-log I don't care). But logs it the way it is. This will be done only for documenting HOS. That's it. You log it like you drove it. If it happens that a truck driver doesn't get rest and gets involved in accident, then its his ###. He goes to court, and then 12 honest man decide whether he or she did or did not make the right choice of pulling over and taking a break. There's question for you. Lets say a truck driver fell asleep on the wheel and crashes. He did take 10 hour rest. Have time on 11 and 14 hours. But it happens he drove night time and as we are all humans our body wants to sleep at night (or partay) not drive big rig. I mean the driver is legal 100%, yet he still falls asleep. The question is: "Who's fault it is?" Well may be, when it was time to sleep he didn't sleep. He watched TV, played games on his laptop, surfed the web, whatever. He did stay in the bunk doing all that. Law was followed all the way. What is next? They will tell us when to sleep and how much to sleep. And will put some machine that monitors your body function so the machine knows when you are well rested. And this machine will also control the truck, so if the machine decides that you are not rested well, the truck will not move. Is that whats coming? Because I guarantee you, whatever law they put in effect, accidents will happen. Whatever machine they put in place it will brake, and accidents will still happen. They forced seat belts. People still die in crashes. They put ABS - people die, they put airbags - people die, they put TCS - people are still dying. I am really sorry, but people will be dying and not because they didn't have ABS or TCS or airbags or seat belts, but because accidents happen. They should educate people how to drive not force them to wear seat belts or do this and not do that. Truly all those things help, but that's about it. We need better educated people, not more stupid laws. Back to the question. The law didn't help. It might have made things actually worse. It happened to every driver. It happened to you. You don't feel sleepy but your 14(11) are gone. You have to pull over. Then you can't fall asleep. So you end up sleeping 4-6 hours and now you have hours to drive. But you are tired now. When you were OK to drive the law said you weren't. When you are tired, the law says its OK to drive. That's the law and you should obey it. Well it needs to be changed. Another thing is the government should give the power to the people(driver) not the corporations (shippers, receivers and trucking companies). We also pay the government (taxes, tolls, fines, etc.). The problem is WE PAY THE GOVERNMENT, NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE GOVERNMENT, like some companies do. That's why we (as drivers) are not successful, and all the big outfits are. Come on guys that's another solution. It's obvious that the government is corrupt. If all truck drivers, everyone gave $10, that's like $200'000'000 at least. Do you know how many senators we can buy with that money. House of representative? $100 each, we will buy the president, i guarantee it. It's democracy, which means everything is for sale. It's illegal, but all the big corporations do it all the time. There are legal ways to buy someone off. Donate money to their charity, donate money to their campaign... Or my favorite. Give them cash and record it secretly. Then if they don't play by your rules - blackmail them. Just beautiful. Come on guys. 2'000'000 drivers, I think everyone can afford $100. That's 2 billion dollars. $100 will buy us all the laws we need. Some can put even more. But then... WE'LL BE RAKING THE CASH, NOT THE BIG CORPORATIONS. LET'S ALL GET CORRUPT. THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT NOWADAYS. And what will the government do if we go ahead and do this? Will they arrest all 2 million drivers and put us in jail? We will buy the jail. And the guards, and the judges, and the 12 hones man, and the chairs they sit on (that about the chairs reminded me of a propaganda when I was in orientation for knight. The guy (someone in the office) was talking to us - the new slaves how knight is debt free company. He said something like. "Knight is one of a few debt free companies out there. They own this land, they own this building, even the chairs you are sitting on." I should have left right then and there. Soon enough they owned me too. Well its not as bad as cr england, but it could have been better. Look, if Alaska gives out $4 billion in tax credits to oil companies since 2006
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/alaska-gives-out-4-billion-tax-credits-oil-companies-2006 why don't they give us some slack. The oil companies made so little money, because the price of oil was so cheap. See, the oil companies paid the masters of Alaska some money and they are returning the favor with the money from the slaves of Alaska. It's that simple. Why can't the truck drivers pay the masters of USA some money and then the masters of USA will pay us back some money from the people of USA, because the freight is so cheap and we can't make a living. It's that simple. All we need, is to be together in this. Set up a fund for whoever controls the laws and regulations and then they in return will make a law that makes our life easy. It's that simple. You buy laws, you don't get to write a law, you don't get to vote on a law, you obey the law. Well, since I will be the one to obey the law, why not just buy me a law that favors me and whatever it is that I'm doing???

    STUPID LAW #2
    Chain Law.

So they tell you when and where to put chains. That's a stupid law. It's freezing temperature outside. It's dirty, it's cold and they want me to put chains. STUPID STUPID LAW. I PAY TAXES FOR YOU TO CLEAN YOUR ROADS. NOT TO PUT CHAINS. YOU NICKEL AND DIME ME AND NOW YOU FINE ME? How hard is it? Pay the people, buy the equipment, buy the sand(salt, whatever) and clean the freaking road. That's why I am paying you. If you don't do it you are fired. End of story. One driver told me in Germany if it start snowing hard, they close the highway for about 30 min. In this 30 minutes the cleaning equipment starts moving. In 30 min he said you drive in water, not snow or ice. How hard is that? O yea. You don't have money. You don't have my money. You don't have my money that I payed in taxes and fines, because you gave it to the oil companies, and to the truck driving school companies, you gave it to the banks, you gave my money to the car companies, cause they make really crappy cars. That makes perfect sense to me. Yea sorry, I forgot. No worries, I'm a slave after all. What do I expect, what are my expectations? I have none. WHAT ARE YOURS???

    STUPID LAW #3
    California truck speed limit 55MPH

Another thing that gets me is the speed limit in California. 55 miles? Are you crazy? You try making living on that. And nobody does nothing about it. We are slaves and we are sheeple. We are not humans I tell you. All the laws are fixed pretty easy. But the people have to be united. First lets start with california. If every truck in cali was doing 55 and I mean 55 no more (not 56, 57 or 58,59), and every truck in cali was using the right lane or right 2 lanes. What do you think will happen? The effects of that existing law will be felt and all the drivers of the 4 wheelers will demand that the law is changed and it will be changed. For the good of everyone. If every truck in cali was doing 55, no truck will ever be able to pass another truck (except uphill heavy trucks). Add the lane law (you stay in the right lane, which is not a law, since I don't see any signs specifically telling you in which lane to drive, but cops will fine you for that) and you have miles of trucks. You have a freaking convoy of trucks miles long. All the car drivers will be pissed at the trucks. The law will be changed. I guarantee it. However, nobody does 55 in cali, only when you see a cop. Cops also should pull over any truck for doing several miles over the speed limit. In a way cops help drivers break the law by not enforcing it all the time. The problem with these laws is that the most people don't obey them and the police are also complicit by not enforcing them all the way. I will tell you what is a law. Law is:"If a person using no devices whatsoever (like parachutes for example), jumps from a 1000 feet cliff on a hard concrete head first, the human will die." Now that's a law. You can not brake it, therefore it doesn't need to be enforced. It's not written law, but It is the real deal. One law is a good law only when it's written by good people and people who care. Not by people who don't give a #### and are corrupt to the last cell of their soulless body. The problem with this law (I think) is that there are many mexican drivers in cali, who do not know how to drive or their trucks are junk and can brake if moving faster. My opinion here or as someone else would say it: "just my 2 cents".

P.S. Not all laws are bad. Take the constitution for example. And the amendments. The most important amendment. First one - freedom of speech. I am free to say this and to write it down. And many people can read it. IF you like what I wrote - good. If you don't... well it's your choice. I can't force my opinion down your brain. Second amendment. I can own gun. No freaking corrupt government regulation. I don't need to register it, I don't have to go to some crazy tests. That's not in there. It says "BEAR ARMS". Not "bear arms if he registers it or goes to the psycho clinic for exam". I'm saying all this, because... Well if you lived in a communist country you would know why. Because I can say here "President barack obama is #######" and the secret police will not come to my home and arrest me secretly and take me to a concentration camp for reeducation or if I am not willing to reeducate myself then who knows... Yea try saying something bad about Lenin in Soviet Russia. Then you can just kill yourself. It will be way better for you. Not so much for your family, relatives and friends though. It doesn't really matter whether or not I really think that the president is a ####### or not. The point is I am expressing my right, my freedom of speech (choice). The truth is Obama doesn't have a saying he's a puppet. It's true he's lining his pockets with our cash, screwing us over, but so did bush and clinton before him and bush again. Maaan. Is this a monarchy or what. Who's next president? Bush's daughter? Or her husband? Well they got the money, they got the power, they do it. Not you. Because you don't have the money (cause they took it away from you with bad laws), because you don't have the power (cause they took it away from you again with bad laws). That's it, hope you liked it and enjoyed it. Here's picture of me exercising my second amendment rights. TO BEAR ARMS.
SMILE, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. Don't let the corrupt ######## take away your rights as human beings.

P.S. If the president can call kanye west ####### on TV why can't I call the president ####### on this forum?
If crime doesn't pay... does that mean my job is a crime? How long is the long arm of the law? If a jogger runs faster then the speed of sound, can he still hear his Walkman? If you're in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights? In court, why do they ask if you swear to tell the truth? If you're planning on lying, do they really think you'll tell them so? Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot at them? Why do we call them restrooms when no one goes there to rest? Why do they make cars go so fast its illegal? Why are you expected to slow down in a speed zone? Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii? Why are highways build so close to the ground? Why do people park in driveways and drive on parkways?

Agree in a way but not on HOS.

HOS isn't a bad thing - it actually protects the driver..

Where I work we are required to be 100% legal 100% of the time or risk the job - can't be called in before 10 hours off so I have ample time to rest for the next day/night no matter what. I've always thought HOS should be different for different segments of the industry though..

Chained before I worked here but don't have an opinion on it.

Spit speeds especially 55 for trucks creates a dangerous situation. Have not driven in Ohio since all interstates were raised but when the Pike went to 65 is was a better place to drive.

As I said the power to choose whether he/she will drive or not should be with the driver, not DOT, not the government, not the shipper/receiver or the company you work for. You are a grown, smart, intelligent, sober individual. If you can't make the right choice I'm sorry. Of course there are idiots out there, and the companies and people are greedy and will work themselves to death, but this e-log will destroy the industry, just because there are some bad apples. This law will help few. It will harm millions. The current law is OK if they payed more. However it's all about money. I pay you to deliver this load. It picks up at this time and place and delivers at this time and place. Now its the company's ###. They throw the ball at the driver. Pick up this load here at this time and deliver it here at that time. The driver is between a hard rock and a place (hmm wasn't it "a hard place and a rock" :)). I mean this law can not be fixed by itself. With the e-logs will also come and hourly pay. Otherwise I don't see who'll be driving their trucks. May be the mexican drivers or some freshly imported slaves from china. Who knows what's next. It's not like slave importation from other countries never happened. They probably will legalize it again. And another thing. I think prostitution should be legal at truck stops. I mean come on. If they legalize it, and let the so called "Free market" work, there will be competition. Of course put some laws in place, but not heavy regulated, we need competition out there (if you know what i mean). We need choices. If this is done, rates will fall down, there will be choice, and rapes will pretty much disappear. Why risking raping someone and doing the time if you can do it legally with all the choice you can have and for not that much money? Pimps will be gone also and many kidnappings of women who are being sold as sex slaves around the world. It's so simple, but if it happens all the people who profit heavily from this business will have to actually look for real job, just like you and me. The government knows this and has done nothing about it. The only reason I can think of is... well, may be because they are profiting from it too.

The reason the trucking industry has so many rules and regulations is because to many drivers and companies didn't exercise common sense,.

I liked running nights vs. days.
The traffic was lighter...alot less OTR guys out on the road as they'd all be in the truckstops asleep.
It was especially nice because I'd go in at 1930 and be done by 0530.
Hit the hay and wake up about 1300 or so and have the whole day to goof-off and run around and get stuff done while everyone else is at work.
