Trucker who hit, pushed wheelchair won't be charged

A truck driver who struck a 21-year-old Kalamazoo-area man in a wheelchair will not face criminal charges, authorities said Monday.
Paw Paw police had submitted the case for review to Van Buren County Prosecutor Juris Kaps, but did not seek any charges. Kaps decided not to charge the 52-year-old Kalamazoo man who was driving the semi.
Police have said the semi hit Ben Carpenter's wheelchair last Wednesday as Carpenter was trying to cross from the north to the south side of Red Arrow Highway at Hazen Street at 3:30 p.m. Carpenter, of Alamo Township, said that after the truck hit him, his wheelchair somehow turned forward and its handles became stuck in the truck's grille. From there, police estimate, the truck reached speeds of 50 mph and traveled about two miles before pulling into a Ralph Moyle Inc. trucking facility in the 39200 block of Red Arrow.

I'm so happy for the truck driver. What about any lawsuits? Is the boys family seeking any kind of financial award for the young man?

Man, that guy in the wheel chair got the ride of his life. Can you imagine 50mph in a wheel chair with just a seat belt. WOW!!

Police in Paw Paw, MI, did not seek any charges against the 52-year-old trucker in the investigative report to the county prosecutor. The prosecutor decided not to charge the driver.

Im glad that the man in the wheel chair made it... Could have been his last ride and really did the driver in a bad way..
But god is so freaking funny, he lived more in those moments then most ever will...
