Well, my husband's not a "screw up" and yet his contracts were terminated by certain persons at Swift.

There are a lot of drivers who have had their truck driving careers destroyed by the companies they worked for because these drivers stood up to them and did the right thing. You would be wise to be more careful what you say, else it might come back to bite you in the butt and you end up eating your words.

You know, you don't have to post everything that pops into your head. You do have the right to be quiet, apparently YOU just don't have the ability!

Was I talking about you husband? NO! I dthink I might have read something about your hubby a long time ago. Your husband was a L/O so that is a whole different arena.

You and Inkeeper need to take a chill pill.

There is many I talk to in the terminals that have service failures. Yet they they still have a job.

Geez there was one rookie in Columbus who hit a car and drove away from the scene because he didn't know he hit the guy. Had a "no seat belt ticket" in Arizona and a preventable in WV for pulling off the side of the road into mud requiring 2 wreckers to pull him out. Truck was leaning like it was going to roll.

He left the terminal with a load after a talk about the accident with a load.

And BTW I was repeating what my mentor (5+ years at Swift) said. I haven't seen anything to make me believe other wise.

You made a blanket statement with no qualifier is all. And how is my husband so different being he was a L/O? They terminated his contracts as easily as they would terminate a company driver. Although a company driver had far less to lose.

I don't need to "chill" because what I said was not meant in any tone other than a normal tone. My intention was not to put you on the defensive. I apologize.

What can I say? It's a training company.

If you look closely at Swift's CSA report, you will find that there's many who were driving without a CDL, or they got their CDL revoked/suspended, or were cited for some other violation, and was working for them prior to the citation. Hopefully they still aren't with the company. I think they could do a better job vetting applicants.

I agree that if a driver is unsafe that he shouldn't be behind the wheel. The company takes on unnecessary liability if they continue to employ them with multiple accidents. For whatever reason they still do on occasion. Maybe he was someone's son-in-law or cousin or whatever? Or maybe he never had any service failures? They have a tendency to look the other way in those instances. Money, that is money for Swift generated by a driver can cover a multitude of sins sometimes.

My husband's termination had nothing to do with any accident, violation or service failure.

My husband was employed by Swift approximately 8 years, and was a mentor for years for them and I heard him tell me some stories that made me wonder how the student even got a CDL.....and most of these students were through the Swift Academy. They went through third party testers and I can only speculate someone's palm was greased.

The more I hear about this mentor, the less I like him. If Swift is such a horrid company to work for, perhaps he would be happy elsewhere.

I am one of the folks who have benefited from this. Yes, it's true, I am not perfect, and I will admit it on a public forum for all to see. I had 4 accidents in 2 years, plus a couple of service failures thrown in for good measure. Sometimes I wonder myself why I am still employed here, but I'm thankful I am. And I'm over 2 years accident free now. Working toward 3, then 4, then 5 years........

I think they kept me because they could see I was learning and trying. I never made the same mistake twice, and all the accidents were minor (scratching someone's paint, for example, or running over a recap and ripping out the air lines under the trailer.) I guess they felt they had too much invested in me to give up.

I would rather see a company give second chances to imperfect people, than to see a company with a one-strike-you're-out policy like so many do. I wonder how those kinds of companies find drivers- must be difficult to find people who never ever make a mistake.

I totally agree with you here. Sometimes it takes a couple mistakes to make you a better driver. Apparently it made you more cautious since you are now at 2 years with no problems. Keep it up!

This lady speaking on her husband's behalf--wonder if she ever been behind the wheel?

In what i see--it appears he got too relaxed with his job and maybe was in it for the money--and made a mistake he shouldnt have and most likely cost him his job but like Injun said elsewhere --she don't wanna give full details but just want to keep bashing on the company.

Oh well--can't keep everyone happy all the time.

    Have a gr8 day all! :)

There are three sides to every story when a company lets someone go whether Lease or Company: the driver's side, the company's side and what really happened, which is usually somewhere in the middle.

Mrs. Truckrswife, regardless of whether she has ever seen the inside of any of her husband's trucks should be the envy of the forum. She has steadfastly stood behind her man through all of this, taking lumps from a good many of us. We should all be lucky enough as drivers to have a partner in life like her. Gawd knows, I have yet to find any man who could back my play the way she backs Tom. He should thank the Great Spirit every day for her.

She and I have had our .....discussions. But my respect for her stands nevertheless.
