I am personally tired of watching fellow drivers run up a four wheelers rear because he ain't going fast enough for the drivers liking. If you didn't do it I am sorry for your ticket, but if you did you got what you deserved and I hope you learn from it.

OK I will explain the situation clearly so you fellas can Judge right or wrong !
So I'm headed westbound on i80 when I see a police on the right shoulder with a four wheler. I move in the left lane(still goin 65 witch is the speed limit btw), but some driver slows to 60 I would say. Anyway I'm way behind him, but I'm starting to get closer to him . When I get like 3 cars distance to his tail, I look at the mirrors and I see a white sedan on my tail, in the left lane ! So I turned left hand signal and keep looking for the car . I was waiting for the car to make a move ( let me in the left lane or start passing me ) well the car just stood there ( as far I can say at same distance, so I can hardly tell did I have a room or not to go to the left) So with my turn signal on I kept getting closer to the guy at front of me . When I got like 1.5 cars distance I realize " ok now I have enough room to move safely to the left and pass him . Btw the white car still there !!! I passed him and I got pull over for following to close !!!
I wasn't tailgating at all !! -
1.5 car lengths at 60 miles an hour and you weren't tailgating at all. Just what the heck do you consider tailgating?
-
yep you should have slowed down.
you deserved the ticket. -
I consider tailgating : driving on someone rear for more then a few minutes !!!
Not getting colose to your tail and wanting to pass you for 15 sec that ain't tailgating ! -
So it's only tailgating if you follow too close for more than a few minutes. Thanks for clearing that up. Have you considered a career change, driving instructor maybe?
-
As most said, tailgating/ following to close is a serious offense with a commercial veh. this is why most cops will stop you, read the riot act and give a warning if your close but not that close. 40-50 ft. is less then a trailer length. if at hi-way speed thats a definite ticket .
-
So your right and I'm wrong ! This mean every third vehicle on the road should be fined !!! Or am I wrong again!?
JustSonny Thanks this. -
If a 50 feet it's short distance ! At what distance I should proceed to the left lane to pass the vehicle at front of me !?!
-
I think a better question to ask is how much distance at 60 mph do i need to stop before i run into the back of someone and get charged with manslaughter. i am not hanging you or convicting you of anything, how ever niether you or i or anyone else can predict what someone in front of us will do. there are plenty of irrational drivers on the road that in their opinion are being tailgated and their way of setting the score straight is by slamming on the brakes. if you or i hit them, we will be hanged so its better to lay back.
