It is not a upgrade it is simply a illegal mod ....
Go get a amp if you want more power ......padriver87 Thanks this. -
any recomendations as to what size or brand of amp
-
Get a class AB amp if you want good clean power. Also good for SSB use.
Or if all you care about is being the biggest dog on the air at the truck stop and could give 2 ##### less about sounding good or bleeding over into everyone else's speakers, PA's, etc, get a class C amp. -
Texas star 250 will be plenty. http://customcbradios.com/Texas-Star-250V-CW-Transmitter-P676063.aspx

Not worth the extra money, much better to run an external amp when you need to. I have used Xforce amps in the past and been very happy, something with a pair of 2290's or 1446's (if still available) should be plenty powerful and affordable.

They don't have a lot of info on their amps, do they? No specs just a line or two re: name, class and price. Nothing about input recommendations, power requirements, etc. Things you actually need to know to make a buying decision.
At least they list the price. I've seen some sites that wouldn't let you see it (or more commonly, shipping) until checkout. About a $ a watt.
He's got a paragraph on the RFX-75.
That doesn't impress me a whole lot.
Edit: To be fair I just took a look at the TS site. They don't have a lot of info either. Just very basic specs and still no recommendations re: input levels, cooling requirements, etc. No info on real output power either. Do we have to depend on reviews for this data? Or just plain old word of mouth?

would it be hard to make a portible unit with an external amp for slipseating
-
I too am pondering the rfx75 mod. I slip seat and we can not run amps. But I can run power to the battery. I have heard good and bad about the rfx75 but mostly all good. Id like to see what they look like on a scope.

If your slip seating forget an amp! To run an amp you need to do extra ground and everything has to be run to the batteries and fused. If your gonna slip seat about the best your gonna be able to do is get a good radio like a Galaxy 48T or Connex 3300HP or something along those lines.padriver87 Thanks this.
