Didn't take long for the crack down to come. Good that they are starting to look closer at these guys.
JimDriv3r and simplyred1962 Thank this. -
Wow, that's cool... some companies, though, both bus and regular trucking, may just lay low until the heat is off...and then continue saving money by not fixing things and employing worthless people.

Too bad it took such a tragic accident to get the buses and drivers on the radar.

Some of those buses

I often wonder how they even start the things. I was on a trip from Lima To Ft Wayne, In. I was watching the driver update logs and all kinds of paperwork on his steering wheel, on a two lane highway. Often he would drift right onto the rumbles strips, or left and cross the center line.
Guy behind me I had been talking to in my 2 hour lay-over in Lima (trucker heading to a new gig) leans over and says "don't you ever do that in a big rig"

I've OFTEN wondered why buses don't seem to have to meet the same requirements as a big truck.
Why are they allowed to travel at the same speed as 4-wheelers, on dangerous highways, in dangerous weather, when human cargo is much more precious than a load of (_____insert product of choice here_____________)???
The buses are just as heavy as an 18-wheeler, yet are allowed in the HOV lanes.
Well, with my husband driving his truck, me in the passenger seat, and our two dogs, I feel we should qualify for that "2 person or more" HOV lane. ***sigh***
Back on topic, a lot of those buses are simply dangerous, and the drivers, as well.

There's big bus traffic here in S.Ca. with lanes from Tijuana into L.A. and San Bernardino. Some of thoses buses are scary and it's just occassionally that the coops have "buses must enter" signs posted. In Az., on the other hand, DPS has bus inspections quite often between the Dam and Grand Canyon, with all the tourists from Vegas etc. They've had 2 fatals in the last year or so (8 in one and 2 in another).

The CSA2010 stuff is supposed to cover busses too, but I sure don't think in the past they have gotten the scrutiny of trucks. I still wonder how that driver got by the system to drive.
