When a driver is running late, it depends on the customer as to what happens. A JIT load or Priority 1 customer, those loads we will almost always try to repower. Unless you are rolling of course, then we may set up a relay en route, or attempt to repower when you stop. If a team is running the load, we can only call the customer and advise them. Usually they note the new ETA, and move on. Sometimes they will reschedule right then, or tell us to call in the morning to reschedule. And there are some customers that we know how late we can be, and we work with that.

My favorite is when I am running late, not my fault. I have an appointment time for a live unload. I pull in to the receiver and they didn't get a call that I was running late. Then I get the attitude from the customer.

I had this happen with Walmart. I had 2 1/2hrs to get 250mi. Picked it up at the Decatur terminal. I had been sitting all day, and available. It was a T-call. I sat for a whole day, no truck stops within 50 miles. I burned some fuel that day.

Sometimes, yes. I've had people refuse to give their name when I've asked for it. If a load is scheduled as a live unload, and when I check in, they tell me to drop it, I'm supposed to get the name of the person telling me to drop it (probably for the same reason you listed in your post). Some folks look at me like I asked for their home address, cell phone #, SS# and their mothers maiden name:biggrin_25510:

Geez, people, if what you are telling me is correct, why can't you give me your name?

We're also supposed to put in who signed for the load. Often, I get just initials and a refusal to give a full name. They act like they're going to get in trouble if they give their names....like it's some big National Security issue or something. And then give a big ol' 'tude when asked.

All I say is, "My company requires I get a name for our records."
And I hear, "We're not allowed to give our names out."

Yet, they can ask for my ID, have my full name, birth date, home address, photo and description.

Yup, many times I've had to just put initials into the E-call. Sometimes I don't even get that- it's just "Walmart recvg" or "Home Depot recvg" etc..

The customer got a call in your case. However, WalMart doesnt schedule like that, they dont just say "oh we'll fit him in when he gets here". Usually its rescheduled for the next day. You just werent made aware of it.

Thats a good point. And if that happens, well, we cant force anyone to give up their names. Yet... :biggrin_25525:
