I'd say it went down like this. The driver checked in and they told him to drop the trailer and pull away saying nothing about the jacks. The driver went in the sleeper and a little later the warehouseman come out to secure the trailer. After unloading, they brought the bills out to him. The driver starts his truck while the guy disappears from sight removing the jacks. They are right beside the building so the driver assumed he went inside. The kingpin had to get ahold of the poor guy??
It's a chain of events that led to a bad accident. I bet procedures are changed. I hope the guy survives.

Anyone hear any updates on the guy who was pinned? Or the driver?

how about this (had it happen) you unhook and pull up sit in the front the whole time they are loading then 1 gay comes out with the paperwork and another guy comes out to remove the trailer stand ( you never know the other buy is behind you) for that reason i will NEVER pull out that far, if i must unhook i will only pull out enough to just get the hitch out but leave the mudflaps under the trailer OR i pull out and park away from the trailer..
either way i pary for the guy -
This is the primary reason why I never move my truck when other people are near my truck. This accident is a big reason to not move your unless everyone is away from your truck, just to insure something like this never happens.

First rule is what. GOAL... I will line up and then do a walk around before I hook a trailer.
I check the doors are secure and not going to swing out while I am coming off the dock and pull the chocks out as well as the nose dolly. I check the grommets on the glad hands and then proceed under the trailer. Then I get out again and visually check my pin lock and connect the air. Then I do a little tug to double check the pin lock.. It is clearly a #### shame. Why in the world would a driver be in such a hurry to hook a box I will never know. The guy on the ground even could not move out of the way as the driver was backing to quickly. Bad deal all the way around. -
I say it the fault of the ground guy and ground guy only. People need to take more responsibility for their stupid actions. Why was the guy even in a position to be crushed????? Why was he in between a truck and trailor???? I really wish society would quit tryin to nail drivers with everything.

The guy was trying to get the nose jack out for the driver.

I understand what he was doing...or trying to do I should say. But its TOTALLY inexcusable to be in between a truck and a traiilor at any time for ANY reason. It just nerves me to see people screamin goal and these insane "procedures" when all it really takes is some common sense...but I guess its true...common sense really isn't all that common. This case is a prime example.
Injun Thanks this. -
