Hello, I'm new to the forums and I have some concerns about my future driving career that hopefully can be addressed by experienced drivers here.

I'm currently a student at a driving school in the Southern Ontario region and I should have my ACZ in about 4-5 weeks. Now, I'm very worried about my ability to find employment with my current drivers abstract. I have no crimminal record and no demerit points, but I do however have the following:

    1)Failure to provide insurance card
2)Speeding ticket for 15 over the speed limit (new-not yet paid for)
3)Failure to stop at stop sign (also new-not yet paid for)
4)"driving with wrong class of license (bogus charge that was a result of a very complicated mess that stemmed from the DriveTest Center strike)

My question is, will any trucking companies hire me? I've been real worried about it and I want some blunt, honest answers from you guys. I'm a young guy and I have vowed not to drive a lot more responsibly, but I'm afraid its a bit too late. I've already put an out-of-pocket down payment on the school and I start next week..

Should I be asking for my money back or is there light at the end of the tunnel?

The best thing you could do to find out for sure, is talk to different companies, and ask their opinions. Personally, I think you're going to have a hard time, seeing as the infractions are so recent, that they're not even paid for yet. People don't change in the blink of an eye, normally, and companies will bet that's the case with you too.

    I appreciate the honesty, healthydriver.

I guess all I can do for now is fight the 2 latest burdens on my abstract and try to save my ###. No one to blame but myself. I'm going through with the school, and the license, and just put my all into a job search.

As I said, talk to a bunch of companies, and see what they say. If you can, talk to their recruiters face to face. Maybe one of them will be willing to look at hiring you if you do well in the school. You have nothing to loose trying, right?

Most companies state that you can have No more than 3 moving violations within 3 years prior to the application.

You have 2 already, and there resent. Plus your new. I think this is going to be a problem. I think you should try looking for work with a small company, you may have better luck. From now on protect your licence, your job depends on it.

I'll definitely apply to smaller companies.. Hopefully someone will give this young buck a chance. I know a couple Owner Operators personally and I'll be getting in touch with them soon, see if they know anyone.

I don't know why I didn't clue in earlier that my abstract's ######## would affect my employment opportunities in the future. I just never thought about it that way (that it all boils down to insurance)..

I'm driving like a #### angel from this moment on, that's for sure. I'm not looking forward to the treacherous journey I have ahead of me after truck school. I've never beat myself up so bad over some stupid #### I've done. Ah well. Hopefully I can knock at least one out of the way, and keep my abstract intact for 3 years..

Your gonna have a very hard getting employment with that failing to stop ticket.
I would talk to the teacher's at the school for any advice from them and also the recruiter's at the different companies.

If the school is telling you that you'll get hired w/ a record like that, they aren't being honest. You may have a chance w/ a small owner op who doesn't check that stuff, but none of the big co's will;their insurance carriers wouldn't allow it.What about the Alberta Oil Sands? I read that the oilfields in US will hire anyone, maybe it's the same up in Canada?Anyway good luck and stay away from that MJ,big rigs don't mix w/ that stuff. If that bus driver from the Bronx could get hired w/ 2 felonies (one for murder) and a suspended license ,you will have no problem.

Alberta is a looong way from Southern ON, whosedog, so unless the OP is willing to move, I don't see that as an option.
