Yes there are several instances where they go against the system. I remember back until few years ago ,PA was totally backwards on exit #, you know what I mean, the exit #s didn't match MM, and increased in number when they shoudv'e been decreasing. If I remember correctly.

I 465 around Indy goes east-west or north-south, it depends on where you are at, I-74 runs from a few miles into Iowa where it spurs off from I-80 through IL and IN and ends on the west side of Cincinnati, OH when it intersects with I-75. It is considered east west.I-474 loops around Peoria, IL, it misses the city and is one mile longer. I-380 in IA joins Waterloo, IA to I-80 through Cedar Rapids, IA. It is 73 miles long from the south edge of Waterloo, through to I-80. It generally goes in a northwest southeast direction, but is considered north south for numbering purposes.
I 90 in IL is one that still is confusing, it crosses the skyway from the Indiana Toll Road, runs with I 94 up through Chicago, (Dan Ryan Expressway), becomes the John F. Kennedy Expressway, goes by O'Hare international Airport and becomes the NW Tollway, where it goes from Schaumburg to the Wisconsin border, parts of it seem to be numbered north to south or east to west. -
there is only one state in the US that doesnt have a north, south interstate can you name it?

Additionally.... I-85 is west of I-75 in GA once it hits Atlanta going south.

Nebraska, other than the loops in Omaha. -
Alaska also has no actual Interstates.

Yep, I live about a mile from Interstate 238.
That was its state route designation, before somebody wangled its entry into the Interstate system. That sprung enough $$$ to add a direct 'flyover' connection onto southbound 880, because for years, everybody had to use city streets.
This area has already run out of numbers to use, 'connected' to Interstate 80, so any further additions will also violate that rule. -
Also on I 85 in NC around the 103 or there abouts the sides switch, if you notice, going north, south bound traffic will be on your right , not your left as usual, and vice versa. All of this was done so both sides could visit the same rest area with the NC Viet Nam War Memorial.
