A year ago after the 6th or so rollover on the 24 South to 495 North exit in Raynham Ma,they changed the speed limit on the exit to 20 miles an hour. It's posted at least 4 times on the exit and on slow days the Smokies like to hang out there.
I had a empty flatbedder behind me taking the exit. I guess going the speed limit wasn't good enough for him.He went nuts on the CB.I never acknowledged him, but, turned off the CB and dropped down a couple of miles an hour.
He flew by me as soon as he could and was out of sight in no time,I'm thinking,#### driver, poor thinking and attitude !
Gotta love those steering wheel holders.l

In my role I get to talk to drivers about there habits all day long. It's very interesting from my point of view. 60% take it very well, 25% kind of blow it off and change the subject but are polite enough to listen and 15% just freaking loose it. Like it's the biggest insult ever when I suggest that they maybe slow down a bit while approaching at stale light, or maybe not take the ramp at 50 mph.

Kind of, my role is largely undefined. Very cool postion, but I have some real tasks as well, like educating dispatchers and customer service and stuff. So far so good.

I was coming down I-40 in east TN earlier this week, you know where it snakes around with endless curves. The signs do say trucks 50mph for about 20 miles and I did have 45k in the box. They were talking the smack on the cb because I was taking my time going down. I got on the cb and said, It will take longer for you to get down this mountain if I lose this load. I didn't hear a word after that for the rest of those 20 miles.

I've had other truckers blow their air horn as they fly by me in very bad weather. I always thought that getting there safely was the goal. I guess not to some.

Though I don't get down that way much, I know that exit and wondered why the speed was posted at 20 mph. I live in northeasteren Ma. and I guess I haven't been paying much attention to the local news. It never really seemed that dangerous to me. That situation kind of reminds me of the s-curve on I-91 in Springfield, Ma. where the speed limit drops to 45 mph and I've heard drivers arguing over the radio and had them just blast by me. The DOT loves that place, but it doesn't seem to stop anyone.

here's how we should ALL handle guys like that...

if we witness any one of them speeding on an exit ramp, and they roll over...??

we STOP, call the police, fire, and rescue as a good citizen should, then give the cops a statement saying we witnessed thier high speeding on the exit ramps...

just the investigation alone would tell the cops he was speeding, but why should we NOT also help put nails into that person's coffin...???

they want to drive like that, act like that, WE NEED to band together and "drop a dime on them".....

let them biotch all they want after they lose thier license or end up in jail.

of course however.....no self respecting trucker "has any time for that stuff".....as he will, "let someone else do it".......

    and so it goes.
