I am shutting my trucks down this weekend because I am tired of working. taking a break. However, if a load presents itself and I can make money a truck will be back on the road. However, my trucks are running again on Monday. But I will be boycotting Pilot for the next 30 days. I have written letters to my state representatives regarding the EOBRs, HOS and other things, but most of those people don't know which end is up anyway. All they are interested in is getting into the pockets of the taxpayers, and they always hit the truckers first - State of Arkansas a good example, that's the reason I stay out of that state as much as possible. have a good weekend everyone, I am

Yeppers...ya got it pretty rough there.
Regarding BW9's comment...if you're an O/O and accepting whatever you can get, you are already running yourself as a company truck. Go to work for a company. You're the problem.
Don't start! Not until you actually price freight with them! (Not just Swift either) Because I did. It ain't cheap. -
I knew there was something I forgot to do yesterday, or was that NOT to do?

Redd I'm wondering how the amount of post (written words) has to do with how smart someone is ? Does this mean the quite driver sitting in the corner of the cafe is somehow not as smart as the loudmouth at the counter who came in running his mouth and will walk out doing the same ?freightmaster and rjones56 Thank this.

I have heard all this before. While I do believe it would be a good idea, I don't really think it will happen. The reason is because too many of us are all talk and no action. Sure, we sit there and gripe into the CB and threaten to shut down and on and on, but most will just have their gripe then go on to the next gripe. My experience has taught me that when you discuss having a strike on a certain day, everyone is all for it. Then, when the day comes all you hear is excuses.
As long as we continue to make excuses nothing will ever change for the better. I have heard that diesel is going to be $6 per gallon by summer. Are we going to revolt then? Several years ago I thought we would park our trucks when fuel went to $2 per gallon. Sadly, it soared over $4 per gallon in 2008 and all we did was gripe about it.
If you want to see lower fuel prices, We will ALL have to DO SOMETHING and not just sit around and whine and moan. Until then, diesel prices will continue to rise because they will charge us whatever we are willing to pay. -
Diesel pricing is not the biggest issue. Sit down and listen a minute before you interrupt. Two things: First, fuel surcharge will rise with it. If you're with a company or broker who honors that. If you're not, well, time to find someone who will. Second, companies will fold due to their inability to adapt to the changing environment. Yep, you heard right. With those failures, fewer trucks will be on the road. Fewer trucks will mean higher demand for carriers. Higher demand means higher rates. Pretty simple.
You have two choices: Find some way to weather the impending "storm" either by being selective about your freight, as BW9 is or hide under the umbrella of a larger entity like I am....or go broke and fold. Either way, it's entirely your decision.
