Having been a sitework driver, let me tell you it's all for a reason. There's a reason lanes are blocked, there's a reason we want you to slow down in construction zones - namely, so some hotshot doesn't #### near kill us (I've had my fair share of close calls). If you were working in an office, would you want people driving at 65, 70, whatever through your office? Think about it.. we have to get trucks in and out of those job sites. We have to be able to maneuver equipment within the working area. Sorry it's inconvenient, but would you rather have every road be like I-40 in Arkansas?
I swear, ###### if you do, ###### if you don't. If you don't maintain the roadways, everyone complains that they're bumpy and need to fixed. When you get to fixing them, then those same people are complaining about traffic.
It just is what it is. Show some respect. You think your job's thankless, be glad you're not in the shoes of anyone working that job site.Toro and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Don't let one kids comment taint the job you do--and I think I am speaking for most drivers--and I've been doin this a very long time--we understand what you are doing and know our livelihood depends on it...Do we wish we didn't have to get hung up in zones--of course--but I wish i could fish all day too!Diesel Dave Thanks this.

I've driven OTR before (and I'm back to doing it now), and I hear the comments that fly on Channel 19. Granted, I understand that most drivers are simply venting... I understand it's frustrating. I get frustrated when I get held up at job sites, too. And I think most of us out here understand it needs to be done. But, I don't think it's just one kid on this forum who disregards it. I see a whole lot of drivers go speeding through those things, whether or not site workers are present. Slow truck companies tend to be the worst for it, but they're exclusive. I went through several in Iowa on I29 today where it narrowed down to one lane, and had other big trucks riding right on my tail, trying to push me along through the site, and I was doing exactly the construction zone speed limit. People - especially new drivers - need to learn to respect a construction zone.

Well don't feel bad about being tailgated--I'm the guy in the big red/black pete # front of the line doin bout 25 through a 40-50mpg zone cause all there are are little cones and workers wondering all over the place--and alas many of them not paying enough attention to traffic--so I pay attention for them!chopper103in Thanks this.

And the siteworkers all appreciate it, even if they don't get a chance to tell you so themselves.
chopper103in Thanks this. -
I LOVE ROAD CONSTRUCTION!!!!!!!! why? because when there is and they are using concrete i am more likely to be out there in a mixer bringing the concrete. being from the Chicago area i have seen my share of highway work. i apprecieate the drivers that slow down to the construction zone speed limit or lower in work zones. I THANK YOU!!!

That's good that you can see that it's not worth getting upset about. That goes for all the runins you'll have. A good relaxed driver will live longer and have no holes in his or her stomach from worry. It's all about being professional and a good defensive driver.hobbypassion21 Thanks this. -
OP is just another WHINER , if not WHINING about the construction workers working on the roads, he likely would be WHINING about the ROADS being in poor shape
and the construction workers not WORKING.
* Please note that this JUST ME VENTING AS WELL
