Most of the Local companies in my town say they want at least 2 years exp for insurance reasons. They are all pretty much small companies around here, although my uncle is a 22 year driver and works for USF HOLLAND and after a year exp i should be able to get in there, he loves it there.

The recruiter said parking is only in Detroit or BattleCreek, i could ask about Dexter. I have not looked at Roehl yet, they do recruit out of the school im in so i will check them out.PSWH Thanks this.

I was all for Stevens until i found out they want you out 3 to 5 weeks at a time, plus i have to park the truck at the closest KW dealer which is in lansing, so thats not so far, but its the 3 to 5 weeks that get me most. I have a friend in Stevens CDL school now, he is going to let me know if its still 3 to 5 weeks out. I really like stevens, they have great eqp and they are a very safe company i hear.

outland found this off the stevens driver page for their home time
Life on the Road How often can I expect to get home when driving for Stevens?
You'll get home on a regular basis, depending on the type of route you are assigned. Local routes get you home every night, regional and dedicated routes allow drivers to get home every 7 to 10 days, and drivers on national routes get home every 3 to 4 weeks. -
If hometime is important, then are there any LTL companies near you?

However, the only time I would be having the truck home is when it is unloaded and my home is 60 miles closer to the reload point (this is a dedicated account-all loads originate from one loc) than where they would have me park the truck. The recruiter never promised anything but said she could get an answer before orientation.

Well, three to five is kind of the norm for an OTR driver. You have to think - you're going to want that dedicated/regional/etc. route. Thing of it is.. there'll be other drivers who want it, too, including those who'll have seniority over you. Just how it goes.
Hell, I was looking at Stevens Transport. For some reason, my local heavy haul experience - moving loads heavier than a five axle unit is allowed to gross - wasn't good enough for a lot of these flatbed companies, so I was considering giving the reefers a try. Who knows? I still might. -
"the only time I would be having the truck home is when it is unloaded"
They told me the truck even without a trailer cant go home unless you have a fenced in locked area. So i wish you luck with that. -

I agree for OTR, but companies are hiring many regional spots these days for drivers fresh out of school, Stevens is the only one that i have talked to that says you have to do OTR, unless you live in thier area. We had around 9 big companies come into my CDL school and all were hiring for regional, and some even dedicated. -
time off is not the problem, its where u get sent, and the possible milk run home
