    To the OP.

I started with Schneider. Was very happy with their training and miles(and pay). My truck was orange but it was governed at 62mph, even the day cab I have now goes 58!
A benefit to you with SNI over the others listed is that SNI is probably your best chance to get a local gig running around chicago or hauling local out of the rail yard. I started on a dedicated account otr, but SNI was large enough to offer local opportunities. They let me go local in four months to the day that I started orientation. Whatever you decide , good luck.

Ps. If you look in SNI forum you find my "journal" or by searching threads created by me. I am typing from phone which makes it difficult to share link.

If not wired correctly, they can cause a fire, and burn the whole #### truck to the ground. So, to avoid the possibility, many carriers won't allow them.

You don't know what slip seating is.

Slip seating means that the truck you're driving is also assigned to someone else. So you park it at a terminal and go on home time. Meanwhile, while you're at home relaxing, the other driver assigned to your truck is tooling around the country running loads. When your home time is up, that's when they start their home time so they hop out of the truck at the terminal and you hop in.

The logic behind that is: an assigned truck that is parked is not making money. I didn't know Roehl did that. I heard from a Knight driver that they were going to start doing that, but I don't know if the company ever did.

Not only incorrect or faulty wiring, but some drivers will overload the inverter. We were shown a picture of a truck that had an inverter connected to the batteries and then from the inverter, the driver had two power strips. Connected to those were things like: coffee maker, microwave, small refrigerator, tv, xbox, playstation. The driver was completely draining the batteries every couple weeks. So to counter that, many companies will allow an inverter in the truck that can only be plugged in with a 12 volt plug.

I have a 150w that has one 3-prong outlet, perfect for my laptop and a USB plug, perfect for charging my cell phone.

Just returned from our trip to Vermont. And the group of trucks back was somewhat different.

Most seen on the way back to Chicago:
    #1 Roehl
    #2 Marten
    #3 Swift
    #4 CR England
    #5 Crete

Schnieder 4 trucks until we got to Illinois

What did I learn from watching trucks ? Well theres 5 truck companies listed above that I gather are pretty big companies and you will see these often.

But those listed above as a group probably only represented 10% of all the trucks out there.

I must have seen 2000 trucks on this trip meaning 1800 of them where from various other companies all moving something.

I have seen numerous accounts from others on this board that get a year in with some of these listed "starter jobs" companies and then move on. Surely there has to be hundred of other companies that will hire and pay well a noob like me.

    Who are they????

I did speak with 3 drivers at truck stops and without any prompting , all said to get your training on your own and stay away from Werner. fyi

there are 475,000 trucking companies in the US. swift also has 16,000+ trucks so you probably saw quite a few of them lol.

    As for other companies:

    TMC
    Maverick
    May
    Watkins Shepard
    Con-way

You might also want to look into Wel and JBS I've recently heard about both of them and seem to be decent starter companys

Those all pay decent to good for a new driver and are easy to get on with...

If I where you I'd just try to find a comany that fits as many needs of yours as possible and STAY there for a least a year no matter how much you hate it lol so choose wisely

The snow pack is great . Yes you normally wouldn't see much skiing this time of year but it was a good winter ,actually snowed 2 days we where there , Friday dropped six inches of powder.

They still had a 30 inch pack , All was open, Every trail, couldn't believe our luck.

They figure one more week maybe 2 if it stays cold.
