Yes, there are a lot of out-of-work drivers. But there are jobs available. Be sure you will pass background checks, a wizz quiz and don't mind being alone for long periods. If anything gets "shaken loose" on the road, it's your sanity. If you're prone to road rage, find a different field.

Actually his father is right, but he's exaggerating it a bit. The human body wasn't built for repetitive vibrations. This is especially true in heavy equipment operators. Truck drivers have air seats, but still are exposed to vibrations and bumps. I'm sure you can find more on medical websites. It's one of them things that takes 20-30 years to effect you.

You will be exposed to an unhealthier lifestyle trucking as your job is mainly sitting in a seat all day. Most food available to you is high in fat and cholesterol. Sure there are things you can do outside your 14-16 hour day to combat the unhealthy lifestyle, but usually you are too tired after your long work day and bouncing around workshifts. Studies show truck drivers live 10-15 years less than average. Sure, ones will differ with this. But all you have to do is go to a truck stop and observe the drivers and see for yourself.

Read the forum more and you'll see alot of things that stress drivers out too.

But if it's what you want to do and you want to succeed at it, you have to give it 100%. As it's not just a job, it's a lifestyle. In essense, you are married to your job.

There is always work driving a truck. Almost everything in your house has been in a truck, including your house. Beside we keep all the factories and businesses going. Employment is not an issue as long as you keep your nose clean and a good driving record.

These are the "precursors" to a much larger problems that plague our Industry health wise

We are a medium size Company(3000 trks) and we seem to Avg at least 1-2 drivers passing a month(we post there obituary's in every terminal btw)

I dunno, I've seen a few drivers with some screws loose, lol.
