After being on the road for 2 weeks now, the only thing that Trainco didn't cover that I wish they would have would be spread axle trailers...and how/how not to maneuver them. They are a little harder, and you can't jackknife them at all while loaded.
I really feel like I was prepared as much as I could be without any experience.

thanks for posting your experience with Trainco. I have looked into there program. Just waiting to see if my previous job (not trucking) is going to call me back to work.
-
Also how many places did Trainco help you look into for work and what was the Co. Names? -
trainco don't cover alot you'll need to know, they just get you a cdl, your real training will start with your first co.
-
Which Trainco did you attend I myself am going to be attending the Trainco in Lansing Michigan, I will be in the night classes so I can still keep my day job. I was told that they have a lot of companies that hire there people right after they obtain there CDL, is this true because it sounds like by your response that they don't. Please could you give me some info on how your schooling was and how prepared you were when you got on the road, and how you are doing now after graduating for Trainco thanks.

I went there for my CDL, but I didnt take the classes. The one in Lansing is the sister location, and really I think it is the main one. When you want to do the truck rental to practice with, as well as take the class B day thing they offer, you go to Lansing.
Perrysberg is the one Mike went to, as well as myself. You can take classes, rent trucks for the test, and take tests there. They are also affiliated with Owens Community College. Owens had a truck driving program but some shady stuff went on and now Trainco got that part of the job.
Either way, both places are pretty good and they have the NW Ohio and SE Michigan market. However, I find that even though they state they assist with lifetime job placement for taking their classes, it seems they dont follow through with it. I have a couple of friends who took their classes and found work on their own as opposed to Trainco finding it. That is one of the reasons I only tested with them and not trained with them.
Hope this info helps.CJMorey Thanks this. -
What he said is right.
However, there are a lot of companies that hire from Trainco that won't hire from other schools. TMC, Maverick, Schneider, Stevens, are just a few that are quite picky.
If anybody has any questions for me specifically, send me a PM and i will get notified rather than relying on me to come strolling through my older threads. I want to help as much as possible. -
So just so I get this straight: you have to "rent" a truck from Trainco to take the official testing? That after paying them $4k?
Wow! I figured with Owens backing them, they wouldn't be so shady. Bummer, time to look at schools in southern Ohio now...
To explain my surprise, I was under the assumption that since they do the testing on site, you just used their trucks, not pay additional charges just to use what you learned at their school. I just don't understand why I would pay them as opposed to going through school with the carrier I want to work with. And they never told me any of this when I spoke to them on the phone, they was more concerned with me going out there to "tour" the facility, yeah, like I've never seen Owens past the footbridge. -
No... if you take the class you get the truck. Everything is included. And, from what I hear, if you fail the test you get a chance to take it again at no charge.
I wanted my CDL. I DID NOT want the class. 4000.00 is not in my range. I rented a truck for 100.00 or so, the test was 90.00.. so a total of 190.00 and I got to test and got my license.
So to make it clear: You can
A) Pay for the classes and get a license or
B) Pay only to rent a truck and test to get a license or
C) Bring in your own truck and just pay to test.Twiztid_Trucker Thanks this. -
Ah that makes perfect sense, maybe I misread. Trainco is my first choice of school, being home in the evenings will be very nice. I almost called them today and asked them why am I reading this stuff online lol. I didn't realize that the testing center was out there irregardless if you attend their school or not.
I really appreciate you setting me straight, I was very worried through out the day in trying to figure where I was going to attend classes.
To anyone else, please disregard my comment as to them being shady.
