You TRULY have missed the point! The post wasn't about keeping score or what you drive for that matter.....It simply stated the fact that any truck can pull the same trailer and the check will be the same. However, it seems as though you got hung up on the 'getting passed' part. BTW, the housing market is slow from a selling point but that doesn't bring the value of the house down.... it simply doesn't SELL. Don't get your panties in a wad though because I get passed all the time too but I don't keep score because I enjoy the fact that somebody wants to be 'bear bait'

I'm pretty sure when he said he gets passed he meant uphill and not someone doing 90 on flat ground. And also around here creeping up a hill is the second easiest way to get picked on by the DOT-portable scales, next to bulging tires. I'll keep my high HP KW's and I'll leave the Playschool trucks for the fleets.

The value of anything is determined by the price it will sell for... if you house WAS worth $100,000 but can't SELL for that price it isn't worth $100,000.
I know the check will be the same regardless of what you drive... I have a $10,000 Peterbilt with 1,677,000 miles on it... too old for many on this forum but it goes to work everyday that I do...SHC Thanks this. -
You are correct, but now take your FTL or Volvo and go try to sell it/trade it in on a new truck. Lets say he has the exact same truck as far as sepcs 9motor/trans/gears ect) I will gurrantee you that the PACCAR will sell for a bit more than the FTL/VOLVO. That is just the way it is. I'm not saying that a PACCAR is better, but if you have ever owned or sold a truck then you would already know this.
I had a T600 and a FLD and the FLD was nicer than the T600 in every aspect, but I got $5k more for the T600 because it was a KW. Look at any dealers website, the PACCAR used prices are almost always $8-10k more than the others.
And honestly, since I have owned them all personally, I would not buy another FTL unless it was a pre-1999 model and I would never own a Volvo or IH again!!!! They were put together so horribly and all had wiring issues. My KW was good, and so is my current 387....but only time will tell.MUSTANGGT Thanks this. -

The Point is I have two trucks that are both paid for..... One is a Columbia and the other a KW and IMO the Freightliner is cheaper in build quality. My main point from the beginning is that it doesn't matter what truck you drive in order to make a check that's all..... # HSC, I've bought quite a few trucks JUST to sell (I'm also a Used Auto Dealer), so yes, I do know what sells and what won't sell, I could get into a convo about this all day. What I'm really getting at is how SOME believe they have to have a PETE or a KW. My Freightliner has a Detroit and the KW a Cat and when it took them both to the shop I had to have a drink after the bill from the CAT house and I don't drink which brings me the price of ownership. The Freightliner is cheaper to own and parts are cheaper.....but we don't need to get into a convo about that either because if the Paccar product doesn't break then it's cheaper to own.
BOTTOM LINE:
Buy a nice truck that YOU like and get a warranty and screw what I say or ANYBODY else for that matter. I was just referring to the original question on here about the guy wanting to buy a Cascadia so ........ # Krooser, the house is worth over $100k now, the guy down the street just sold his for $140,000. The hurricanes 5 years ago drove the values up around here... for some odd reason. Personally, I didn't buy an EXPENSIVE truck... I wrote a check for a nice used one and spent the other money on the house and a Yellow Vette and a SUV! LOL -
Well it WAS paid for twice... now I owe more on it than I paid for it 8 years ago... 11 months of lost income after a wreck caused by a drunk, illegal alien put me in the hole again but I'm working my way out again.

Older trucks with high mileage are great if you only own 1 or 2. I would hate to try and keep like 6-1.6mil mileage trucks running daily, especially if running under a contract where the load must go. On second thought it wouldn't be much different in trying to keep 6 brand new EPA trucks running daily.

I suppose next your going to tell me Indians drink also?

It's easy to keep a high mileage truck running, MAINTAIN it. There are THREE major components on a truck, engine, transmission and drive line. Most engines have been over hauled, transmissions mostly require a clutch once in a blue moon, and axles maybe after a certain interval they need to be rebuilt. DO these three components break down often? NO.
Look at everything else, brakes, wheel bearings, belts, etc. These are regular maintenance items. SO if you have 300k or 1.6 million it makes NO difference.
Your gear box and suspension up front my need over hauling maybe every 600-800k miles.
It's absolutely absurd to suggest a high mileage truck will break down often, its all how its maintained. If your A/C fails, its because of a leak or a bad compressor. Simple fix. You're trying to suggest that the truck would break down all the time, they don't. An older truck is FAR FAR reliable than a newer truck with emissions and multiplex electrical systems.'olhand Thanks this. -
Don't give me the "maintain it!" crap. I have one trailer that's a '98. And the only reason I have one that old is because a new one is $80k. That being said this thing has horrible electrical issues the wiring is brittle, if you bend it the insulation breaks. What does this have to do with old trucks, Old is old. I see too many guys that would buy an old truck and it would just nickle and dime you to death. By the time you overhaul the engine, transmisson, axles, bushings, bearings, wiring, interior, suspension, exhaust...........blah blah. Your cheap truck costs close to a new one but is still old.
