Is there anyway I can take I-40 a bit further west and avoid the hoover dam area and maybe pop in north of Vegas. I actually have to get into Pahrump and I am trying my best to avoid the down hills on this trip. This is a personal trip for me so its ok to travel a little and take some time. the trailer I am towing has no brakes except for surge and its probably a bit past capacity as I am towing my car on a flat bed behind my RV. Everyone says it should be ok but I would prefer a flatter route. Our longhaul guy says 95 is the way to go and get into california first

Where are you coming from?

You can go north on 95 a bit west of Needles. It will take you up to near Boulder City then right down into Vegas. And if you want to avoid Spring Mountain, you can go on north of Vegas on 95 to the Pahrump turnoff. I believe it is 160, but I'm not sure.

If you're going to be on I-40, you'll have a couple of good down grades before you get to US95.....but if you're coming out of southern AZ (Phoenix or Tucson), you can cross the Colorado at Parker and take 95 north out of Vidal Junction. Once you get to the other side of Needles, 95 is pretty level and good running all the way up to the intersection with US 93.

Coming from Sherman Texas

Coming from Sherman, I'd say the shortest route would be to get up to 40 and hang a left.......but then you'd have to drop down into Albuquerque and then the drop west of Flagstaff. Longer distance, but fewer ups and downs would be 20 to 10 to 95.
