1988 Pete 379. shes got 4 million miles on it and the old big cam III finally gave up. Had a broke 82 pete here with a good runner in it. So i swapped it into my rig. The problem is the new motor is a big cam II i beleive, but the tag is gone off of it, so i know nothing about it. I switched the oil cooler from the old one (a dual setup) so I wouldnt have to run a luber finer (so I was told)...got it fired up and its running over 70 pounds of oil pressure. verified it with another gauge too.. what happened? It must be something to do with that cooler setup as far as i can tell. Anyone ever tried to switch them? oh i also dropped the pan before I put it in and checked all rod and main bearings. all great. and it has 2 new oil filters on it as well. I guess thats what i get for switchin stuff back and forth and tinkering... Thanks for the help.

Look under the #3 head on the driver's side. Just below where the head meets the block. That is your engine serial #.

    Strider Thanks this.

Well do you at least know if it's a Big Cam ? On the drivers side of the block above the cam followers should say Big Cam, And with that kind of oil pressure it should be a BC1.
