Wilson 2K's also do not pick up the asphalt/alternator chatter like the Francis

Pure BS. I have broken the seal on my equipment from Sparky just to look inside. Not one thing was clip, snipped or removed in any of my radios with the exception of my 4300HP. He had to clip a couple resistors to install the top gun speech compressor and Modulator as per directions that come with the units.

As for his message board. I did not have to wait for admin aproval to post on his board.

I have called him many times and always, always got through unless it was before or after his normal business hours. Remember what time zone he is in also.

I have two radios currently that came from Sparky and they get nothing but praises on the air. Atleast one of our drivers was so impressed that he bought a Galaxy 979 from him and that thing sounds great and will reach out and touch someone with no problems.

Sparkys only problem is that his is a little short on the phone sometimes. He is much better at his bench then he is at the phone. But then I suspect he is a very busy person and does nto really have time to chat on the phone.

I have heard many radios on the air and alot of them came from some of the well known shops such as Radio Active, Rolling Radios, Clays, GI Joes and I have heard many of them transmitting over more then one channel at the same time. Have yet to hear a Sparky Radio bleed over onto other channels.

As far as antenna arguments. I won't touch a Francis ever again. Had two of them just snap off in the wind going down the road. They were very poor performing. I got better performance out of a mag mount lil'will. Yes they can be tuned but I am nto one to take a hacksaw after a fiberglass antenna. Chop too much off and you are buying a new one. Atleast with my Wilson whips I can adjust them a great deal with no physical cutting of the whip. No one looks twice at them because there are so many of them out there.

Well good for you. I suppose those of us that did are liars?

That being said, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase! And thanks for the tip. Good to know that so many shops have problems with bleed over.
I'll know better next time now. Thanks!

I had a load that took me through NYC a few years ago. A guy driving a mini-van ran into my truck. You shouldn't go to NYC, because undoubtedly, a guy in a minivan will run into your truck. If you go there and try to tell me you didn't get hit by a minivan, I'll know you're a liar.

Things change over time. Sparky's old forum didn't require admin approval, I got on it years ago, probably around the last time I bought something from him, which was spring 2007. Now he has a new forum, on a different server. It requires admin approval. Thus, both your experience and Rat's are highly believable, and more than likely accurate.

Because they do a great job for me , and don't seem to attract all the attention that Jake was talking about.

Ok....( peering thru the smoke ) Is the battle over? Can I get some advise?

Want a new radio..... always had Cobra 25 and 29 with mods... always worked "ok" but that's it.

Seen the new Galaxy 959 and 979 on the shelf and those are a far cry from double digit series from yester year and I see some of you with a Cobra 29 / RFX75 something...... what's that?

I'm not looking to make animal noises or talk about panties.... I just want to communicate when I key up.... so how about it? The best choice?

The RFX75 is replacement finals that boost the watts considerably, is on it's own little board in a heat sink and mounted externally on the back of just about any radio but works best on the cobras especially the 29s.
That's the short of it anyway and some here will say go with an amp for the extra watts instead.
Neither is right or wrong really but probably more a matter of preference.

I have a cobra 29 ltd classic with the rfx75 upgrade and the high gain low noise transistor recieve upgrade I have good clear conversations with folks with upgraded radios at least 6 miles out, not so great with little radios far out in the distance though, it also has a road king 56 mic, the radio work was done by custom cbs and I am very happy with it, I'm told the radio is loud and clear and doesn't bleed across channels. I also have a galaxy 959 that I just got back from custom cbs it has the duel mosfets upgrade, a viagra board, the recieve upgrade, and a skythumper echo board that is rf limited. The galaxy is my primary radio but in my uneducated opinion both are fine radios, what I have learned here is what ever system you choose get it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing and above all else get a good antenna and set it up properly. ( mine is a wilson 2000 on an aftermarket mount using beldon mini 8 coax, antena mount is grounded to the frame with 10 guage wire, the radio case is grounded to the frame, and the swr is 1.0, 1.0, and 1.1) just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps!

There are some great technical discussions on modulation on a couple BBS out there that especially cater to AM. I would hope that the admins in those places would welcome anyone wanting to learn or wanting to get the best signal possible and do it the right way.

    amfone.net
    amforever.com

    topics:
    ultramodulation
    supermodulation
    3-diode circuit
    keep-alive
    asymmetrical modulation
where the compressor goes in the chain
    phase rotators

There seems to be a general consensus that once the positive modulation exceeds a certain percentage (120-200) it becomes impossible for the diode detector in the receiver to reproduce the received signal without distortion, making it sound bad or unpleasant. There are a lot of variables and a lot of discussion about receivers and detector types, degree of fidelity desired, an individual's tolerance for some distortion, etc. Some of the people on those boards are broadcast engineers and know what they are talking about.

I realize we can't just re-arrange the audio chain in a CB but we can make sure it is performing the best that that individual model can, and if mods are to be done, that they are done sensibly so the radio isn't turned into a pile of poo that annoys people 4 channels away. (super bowl, are you reading this?)

How's that receive upgrade working out? I'm waiting on the transistor and diodes from futurlec to do mine.
