Lonesome...... maybe a 'lil compassion here? Trucking is full of newbies whom don't have a clue about truck management and their games so naturally their "shocked" when they get shafted..... ya know??

Ummmm...I'm likely sure you didn't mean that the way it sounded but...
Some of the truckers out here do a very real job and do it very well...Of course there are those that are an embarassment
to this field, as in any field...

    :biggrin_25513:

    Actually,
I went to college and did complete a 2yr Associates Degree....

Oddly enough, I have a masters in education and chose trucking over the classroom. So don't be the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.

I talked to someone there last week and gave them my app. today and was wondering if they are a waste of time.

I see they have some bad sms scores but they were mostly for drivers doing dumb things like not have on there seatbelt, speeding, radar det. in the truck, Not a lot that the company was blamed for.

Only 3 crashes and they were all in 09.

Any help with what to watch out for with them would be appreciated.:biggrin_255:

They are actually not that bad of a company, you are usually home every weekend. but they do dispatch alot of night loads for ex: you pick up in murray ky at 10 pm and have it to atl, ga by 6 am the next morning... there is alot of that. The money is like this... if your an owner op or leasing a truck they don't give u a fuel surcharge ... they give u 2 cents for every 12 cent fuel rise.. so if you r making 1.18 and fuel is 3.69 gal. but fuel goes up to 3.81 then u would make 1.20 for those miles.. It gets really confusing trying to keep up with things also sometimes they take fuel out of your check from friday til thurs. but payroll runs from sunday to sat. and it eats up your check . the payroll is always an issue.. You try to keep up with what you will make but they take something out or change something and you have to call every week to see why your check was this amount and it should have been that amount. As far as accidents, if you have one while driving for them you will be out of a job. So if you are too tired to take a load don't take it cause if you have an accident they won't accept any blame, it's all on you and you will lose your job. It's a gamble like any other company, just try them out and see.

6 yrs is not a long timer as I know it! Dad started in 63 and in 71 I got to go with him when I wasn't in school and rode with my older brother that started in'72 and got my special chauffeur's license in 79 so you got to see that 6 yrs is not all that exp'ed coming into it green.... at 6 yrs you are Not all that knowedgeable of everything around the industry.

Dad did local for a parts co. for Ford and brother did flatbed and hauled steel and I was the Tarp and Chainman to earn my Pinball machine and Pool table money while brother got some sleep at a truckstop when we had time to stop!

So I started in the biz as a kid of 10 in '72 and now it's '11?

Everything changes year to year with the Gov. crap and they only make it worse.... The OBR's will finally take me off the road if I can't find a dedicated run or local that pays good.... 6 yrs Huh? Goodluck.
