Nah, what I was suggesting (perhaps too subtly) is that it is not against the law, nor is any permit required, to carry bear spray in Canada, although mace and pepper spray (which are very similar) are illegal. So, if a person is concerned about personal protection, they may want to pick up some bear spray. You won't get hassled about it at the border either. It MUST be spray that is packaged and marketed for the sole purpose of driving off aggressive animals though. The stuff is commonly sold in camping and outdoors supply stores. Some is marketed for protection against aggressive dogs, but I am not sure of the composition of all varieties.

unfotunatley we all run into that anymore and trying to keep cool is quite hard\with inconsiderate jerks like that out there and there is getting to be more and more of them out there
