I should clarify that it's not very efficient use of your time to take nothing but 8 hour breaks. I maximize my time by utilizing a two hour break at either the shipper or receiver while unloading. A typical day for me might be:
Sleep 8
Drive 5
Sleep 2
Drive 6
Sleep 8
Drive 5 etc...
I unload and pickup once a day. I typically sit 250 miles from the receiver and start my day very early in the am. If the receiver takes more than an hour to unload, I stay long enough to make it two hours... Drive a short distance to load where I'll then have 4 to five hours left to drive. Sleep in the early afternoon so I get prime parking in the truckstop... Up at O'dark thirty and do it again.

that makes much more sense, this is the first time I split my break because of the confusion my dm's had yesterday it almost messed me up for my pick up today. but thank you for explaining it to me

Robylilillill Thanks this. -
one thing though make sure you show a ten hour break at some point, to me it seems like thats what the DOT looks for. i only think the split sleeper should be used on a situational basis. i look at the split sleeper asma total luxury

There is no restriction on the use of the split-break provision. If there were, it would be in the regulations.
lilillill Thanks this. -
I split just about every day and I've never had the DOT say anything about it. I use DDL though and half the time when they ask about the log book, I tell 'em it's on the computer and that's as far as it goes.

Thanks for the software link!
