Sorry about your bad day. I had one recently myself and it gets better as every day goes by. Do not call the DOT on your old boss. Have you ever heard the saying "Watch what you wish for" The DOT can fine you for bad logs over the last 6 months so watch what you wish for. The best thing to do is just learn from this and move on. Like I said earlier, It gets better and better as the days go on.
I lost my job today.

Elendil, I see your still in school, and reading about how the guy ran illegal most of the time, falsified logs, ect,. All this post shows the new truck drivers is, hey, I can get away with this sometimes, and maybe the boss will like me more. Wrong. Forums are great, but sometimes they imbed the wrong things in young peoples minds. I hope you never fall into the steps of this guy. You have your whole life ahead of you, not sure how long trucking will be a part of it, but try hard to do things legally, ALL the time.Meltom Thanks this.

If you think you were fired unethically(prob not the best word to use in this situation, but....) or unfairly then i would turn his butt in.
As far as you getting in trouble too because of it(log falsification) the fines/penalties generally go to the company, not the driver. -
That certainly runs counter to what we are being taught in driving school/ It is your signature on the log. You are responsible for the info it contains and will also suffer the penalty if it is not accurate.

i'm saying in a DOT audit, generally the fines go to the company not the driver. This is when the dot official comes to your company's office and conducts a formal investigation.
Now at a scale or roadside inspection then yes the fine goes to you, the driver if it's logbook related. -
Brickman "If the company's name was Swift or JB etc ya'll would be at the front of the line to scream bloody murder"
So very true -
if you know its illegal(and we all are trained to know)you just don t do it,you will end up killing someone in an accident, and the driver is the guilty one,its not the dispatch thats driving. check out iso2010

I know of several drivers who received nasty large fines during the in house DOT audits.

This is THE reason CSA was created.
The original poster already stated he was running illegal. How do we know he won't do it at his new job? Sometimes old habits are hard to break. He might want to please his new boss as much as his previous one and the cycle continues. CSA will find him and watch where he goes. The company who hires him next will be weary of this before he gets the job.
The good news is most of these third class outfits will be history when CSA gets their ducks in a row.
