Just wanted to know if I really needed to take everything that is recomended. For instance, a sleeping bag is suggested but for school I wouldn't need one ect... Also, is there home time between school and the 6 wk road training. Also, is the 6 week mentor program done on combined hours with the trainer and the student or is it just a flat 6 weeks. Also, is there a long wait if you request a certian gender for a mentor such as a woman mentor. My wife has entered the program so I am obviously curious.

The Mentor program is average six weeks. Could be less or more. If you get a Mentor that runs hard, it will be less. You need 240 hours of driving time, and 40 back ups. Once you get those you test out at nearest terminal. Best to bring all needed items, because some people get a Mentor at the end of orientation.

If your wife insists on a female mentor, there may be a wait. A female non-smoking mentor could be a significant wait. A female, non-smoking, doesn't cuss and shaves her back mentor....good luck.

The more qualifiers you place on your trainer, the longer the wait will be.

I was trained by a man who I was not married to. We had a conversation when I first got into his truck that laid the ground rules for my training period. He was the perfect gentleman. Neither of us ever saw the other without even socks on. It was a mutual respect. If you're the one insisting on a same-sex mentor for your wife, perhaps you should consider training her yourself if you're going through before her. Either that, or learn to trust her. Not all guys are dogs and not all women are easily led.

Plan on getting a mentor immediately from orientation. Better to be prepared than to only have 1 change of underwear and no sleeping bag. Travel light, just the necessities. After she gets her own truck, she can swing by the house and load up.
