I am considering to dispatch from my house, to help truckers with loads...mainly dry i think.

Any idea on how to get started? I have years of trucking and warehouse experience, i even have a small ltl crew in Miami.

    thanks guys!!

A few things you will need:

multiple phone lines and a dedicated fax line
headset for your phone...your neck will hate you if you have to hold the phone with your shoulder all day!!!
    E-Mail and a good computer
    trucking software
load-searching boards (DAT, Internet Truckstop, Getloaded, etc)
    patience!!!

Looking for freight is much easier right now due to the shortage of trucks. It's basically dealer's choice when it comes to finding freight. Don't take the first option...keep searching but don't hold out for too long. A moving truck is always better than one who sits for 3 days looking for the "perfect" load.

Sometimes it's better to deadhead 100+ miles to a better-paying area than to take a cheap load which is close by.

Would truckers go for a single dedicated dispatcher/broker at home with experience or a large company?

What load boards do you look at? Do you go to truck stops to check out the load boards?

My take on this is to learn a bit more about things before jumping into this. You don't want to be "poking around in the dark" and I'm sure any driver would feel better if they thought you knew what you're doing.

True. It may behoove you to get some experience as a load planner and/or dispatcher before sinking some money into yourself. Unless, of course, you already have experience. But that doesn't seem apparent if you are asking some of the questions you are.

Personally, I think the DAT (Transcore 3sixty Freight Match) is the best tool for finding freight. It's live and things move fast so watch out. It is very expensive though, around $200-$250 per month. Internet Truckstop is the second best option and it starts around $30.00 per month and you can add on from there.

Things may be a bit trickier in south florida.

But if you can get things going,

it should prove to be quite lucrative.

Personally, I'd look into produce and or plants/flowers.

Good money in some of that !!!

That there is. I've hauled a lot of plants AND produce out of Florida...and produce backhauls. I've made a pretty penny doing it, too.

He stated that he wanted to deal with dry van loads.

The money down there in that is imported, bonded freight !!!!
