This is a story about the proposed newer higher weigh limit your friends at the ATA want to allow!
This ought to put an awful lot of small companies and owners out of buisness as they try to keep up with getting screwed!

How? Why?
Governed and under-powered trucks plus heavy trailers plus the high cost of fuel plus.......
This just keeps on getting better and better......Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
I know this is sort of off-topic, but I heard that those that have APUs will be allowed to add that weight to their gross weight, so what used to be 80,000lbs max, will be now, for example, be 80,400lbs max...I think it was a state by state issue and some may have already adopted this...It was so those that voluntarily bought units that reduce emissions and fuel usage are penalized...

97k lbs!! That has got to be the most asinine thing anyone can think of doing! The roads for one are already in terrible shape & then u add the cost of fuel, how idiotic!! ATA is so hypocrital, we r all about safety but yet want this crap!
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
The roads can barely handle the 80k limit as it is!!!
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
Thats scary!

80 000 lbs gross is nothing, thats like half a truckload here in ontario.
Raise the limit to 140 000 lbs and then you can at least haul a good load.
max weight in ontario is 140 000 lbs on 7-8 axles. and we seem to manage just fine, our roads are in decent shape and we can pull hills just fine, and we don't have people killed by trucks every day!
80000 is a joke, doesn't even feel like you got a load behind you at that weight. -
Use a steerable lift axle for the extra axle. no damage to roads and easy cornering

I like the comment from the jack*** that says, "ship it by train".
Funny... i was just mulling over producing a mock commercial on that very subject just today. Ah, if only I had a big Hollywood budget...
Scene: Grocery store where a train has entered the very crowed parking lot.
Train engineer to store manager: "Hey Mac, I got a load of produce. Where do you want it?"
Store manager: "Uh, our loading docks are around back"
Train engineer: "Thanks Mac."
Camera zooms out to see the train engineer trying to navigate around the cars in the lot, crushing most of them in the process.07-379Pete, drvrtech77, Rollover the Original and 1 other person Thank this. -
wouldn't make me mad to see them go back to 45 ft trailers ans 72,380 gross
it boils down to the average trucking company will be hauling more freight for the same moneyRollover the Original and 07-379Pete Thank this.
