Both team members have to have their hazmat to receive the team pay. There are 2 types of hazmat pay for teams: 1) If both team members have their hazmat license you make an extra .04 cents a mile on all your miles. 2) Additionally, any hazmat loads you run pay an extra .02 cents a mile quarterly. It is like a bonus check that they pay out every 3 months for all your hazmat miles run the previous quarter.
Germangirl Thanks this. -
Seems like some pretty good money. If you could find a decent person to team with, with a hazmat endorsement. If you are going to drive a truck for a living you should justufy your time away from home with a pretty good paycheck.

Yep, pay is pretty good. Not to mention the $2500 per person hazmat bonus (which they actually do pay)

whats the orientation like? i heard there was a physical. my wife is pretty small and i don't think she can do it. i am afraid of leaving our current job and going to usx and her not passing because she can't do the physical aspect. not even sure why its required? i thought we were drivers not lumpers

For women, they have to be able to lift and carry 48 pounds. Not many people fail the physical

My recruiter at USX, Scarlett, told me that there are 2 different physical capabilities tests. One to qualify for OTR, and the more difficult one to qualify to for a dedicated run. Once you qualify for a dedicated, you stay qualified. Even if you don't want or get a dedicated run right away, you remain qualified so you can get one at a later date. She said all of the recruiters had to go through the testing, too, although they only had to do the OTR test. She said you have to do the "duck walk" for 4 feet without touching the ground with your hands (and that is on both tests). This is to simulate walking under a trailer, if necessary. Then you do the load walk, which is to simulate carrying boxes from the nose of the trailer to the tail. On the load walk for the OTR test you have to carry a box with 48 lbs. of weights in it for 50 feet, and 70 lbs. for the dedicated test. Then you have to take that box and lift it onto a shelf at a height of 50 inches. Again, 70 lbs. for the dedicated and 48 for the OTR test. Craig, can you tell us if you meant that for the dedicated test, women don't have to do the 70 lbs., just the 48 lbs.? Or did you do the OTR test and, as a man, had to do the 70 lbs. for their OTR test? Then she said you have to climb 24 inches to simulate climbing onto the bumper (ICC bar) of a trailer. She also said there is a 120 lb. pull, kind of like the machine in a gym where you develop your strength by pulling those bungees. Then you have to push 50 lbs. for the basic, and 100 lbs. for a dedicated. Not sure how far you have to push it. I thought I heard that for the push test you had to push something that was over your head. Scarlett said she didn't remember it being over her head. Craig, can you tell us if that part was pushing something over your head?? I have been concerned about doing the test also, since I am a woman, and not so strong. I have been practicing at home, especially the duck walk. Scarlett said that is the test people tell her they have the most trouble with. Remember, you don't have to do both tests. Scarlett said that if you want to try for the dedicated test, but don't pass it, they are supposed to then let you try the OTR test. She said to call her (or your recruiter) if they don't. The tests are not unreasonable, and we are not expected to be full time lumpers, but the company needs to make sure we are able to unload a trailer, if necessary, and perform other physical aspects of our job as drivers. From what I hear, most if not all of their dedicated runs require the driver to unload the trailer every trip. Good reason for not taking one, unless you like unloading trailers! My understanding is that most people who don't get hired have problems because they have not disclosed distant past information, like their criminal record. Someone said that they actually check back 20 years, so don't withhold any information. On the app it says have you ever been convicted of a crime, not have you been convicted in the past 3 or 10 years. Hopefully Craig can give some additional information since he and his wife went through the test recently. Also, Craig, do you know if there is a shop in Colton, CA and how many shops the company has total?

My wife did the test at 70lbs and her heartrate was too high for dedicated. She passed for OTR. The did not make her do a seperate test. She was told AFTER the test that she could have taken weight out of the basket. I do not know if there are different weights for dedicated and OTR

They have this device that you put against the wall above your head and it measurres the pressure you can push it. No big deal at all and my wife (who is not strong at all) passed

The Colton shop was closed but they have contractors come in for basic stuff like tires and brakes. We are swapping yards with Swift in Fontana in about 10 weeks and I do not know if they will re-open the shop when that happens. Most of the terminals have shops that are opn from 7 AM to Midnight. Tunnel Hill GA (and maybe Irving TX) are 24 hours. I know the Lincoln NE shop is closed.Germangirl Thanks this. -
Thank you for the info. Hopefully I can pass. I will take some weights out, as I am not so strong either! We are scheduled for Monday, May 9th in Colton.

Hey Mustang, i am rather a small thing only 5,2 ft. and 126 lbs. I did NOT practice any weight lifting, and the physical was really NO problem at all!
