1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

It's tough if you have been out due to insurance. I have owned two trucks but have been out for more than 10 years. I have had my CDL for 35 years and have PTX endorsements.

I can buy a truck and trailer, get my authority and insurance and run that way if I can raise enough capital. Not that I am recommending it but Schneider was the only company I could get to take me and they required a refresher course certificate. I can get that locally for just over $1300.00.

Many companies do want to make the training money. Since I am near Prime (ughhhh) I gave them a call. They wanted to put me through there complete school complete with a long-term commitment.

I've been looking into this for several weeks. My guess is there are a few companies that will take you with a refresher course and most won't be high on the desirable list. Other than that you will have to get a live in your truck while you starve waiting on a hot load job.

The mega carriers have figured out a number of ways to make more money than hauling freight and training is one of those ways. Hauling cheap freight is just a sideline to training mills and fleece purchases that allows them to run the money-making part of their business. The industry is on a fast downhill slide to hell. What can you do if the smell of diesel smoke sends you down the road?
