Hello all,
I am new to this board...(so be gentle..lol)
I live in the frozen north otherwise known as Canada
I am a longtime driver 18 years so far...
I have done a variety of different trucking over the years
I have a general question as I am tired of living in the frozen tundra of canada and want to relocate to the US and drive down their.
I am thinking AZ,NV..or texas..
Does anyone know what the process is to do this..?
Do I need a company too sponcer me to drive for them down there??
I have trucked all over the states being based out of canada so I know my general way around down there. and the different DOT rules and all that fun stuff as per each state.
So if anyone knows how to do this or companies or contacts down in the US to do this let me know
thanks![]()

hey no snow---
as for immagrating to the usa--it is very hard--unless you can qualify under prefessional visa--as in doctor nurse or such---i am going thru the immigration process right now, under marriage visa--and believe me it is a long and expensive process---if you google us immigration that will give you some ideas as to what is involved
there is a green card lottery as well--but usually canadaians arnt allowed to be part of it
another way is investment in a business---cant remember the exact numbers--but it is quite a bit and has to employ so many
you can get a free consult with an immigration lawyer as well---he would definately know more than i do
good luckLast edited: May 3, 2011

Hello from one Canuck to another. I do live here but have a "green Card". Was born in Montreal and came here at age 1. OK, so the basics are, you are a Canadian citizen, right ? With a passport to enter the States ? When you enter, how long can you stay ? To drive for an American company, you would need a U.S. CDL. To do that, you need a U.S. address. What you really need to do is get a green card, which takes time. My other thought is since you can enter the U.S. legally, make this country a sort of temp/perm residence, much like the "snobirds" do in winter. They come here but must leave after 6 mnths, I believe. They keep their plates/drivers license etc. And they are OK to rent a place with no problem. But you would still need to get licensed here to drive a CMV here. Investigate it further, it could work. Good luck.

thanks,
yea...
I DID have my duel citizenship via my dad
I went to apply for a US passport last year and I showed them my greencard and they had a series of questions for me and since I never had perminate residence in the US and couldn't provide supporting documentation that I did...
they pulled my greencard...
they acused me of being part of a sleeper cell....(and I am white)
as I had my card BUT never resided in the states....
so I am a threat...I guess...
I said is the boyscouts of canada count as a terrorist group????
they didn't find it funny.
SO they yanked it and wanted too know how I got it in the first place.
aparantly under the "new" rules
you have to reside/work in the US for x number of months every 2-3 years too keep it active.
if not they CAN pull it.
I figured I had it So its no bubbles no troubles if I wanted to go reside in the US I could it never expired or was questioned
I had no trouble crossing over. before the fast card requirement. I showed up at the border and showed them my card and no questions asked...it was lovely....
I even photocopied it and sent it in with my fast card app and got approved before the other guys did...
So the company loved that part of it.
so to avoid the headache again
I am interested in going the sponcership route like westcan does or standard general with mexicans....importing them in to work in canada
get sponcered...do my time with sponcer company, let them do all the paperwork and once I get my citizenship and fullfill my contract then go do what I want too do down there...
but its proving harder said then done...
To go hang out at the US consolate office again isn't on my list of things I want too do to reapply.
and my dad has since passed so its a whole different process to getting my greencard again.
So I am finding out it is a great idea
in theory only...
I just want to go down and live somewhere warmer and be able too work too, for a change.
maybe now iggy lost big lastnight maybe I can call him and seek refuge with him down there...HAHA....what an idiot

Yeah, I can relate to having to deal with immigration. That's why I have a Green card and have not pursed Citizenship. Way too much hassle. I can do anything a citizen can do, except vote and serve on a jury. I collect Social security, have a CDL, pay taxes, can get a job anywhere (if I wasn't retired). Life is sweet.
