on my last 09 prostar with stuped singles got 6.7 mpg when they changed out the old drives to new caps my milage went down to 5.9 mpg.....!!
after 125,000 miles it was back up to 6.2 mpg so ya i have seen the mpg drop first hand. -
I recap only my casing and have never had an issie with caps. I run the ones made for a spread on my trailer and get good milage out of them. My MPG has not changed when going from virgin to caps and i only cap my cassings once. Its like anything else ask 10 peple there opinion and get 10 diffrent answers.

Michelin XZE on a Bridgestone 726EL casing. I bought four casings from my son's friend (normally I only retread the casings I bought new)... one had a poor prior repair and was buffed, inspected and rejected.
Michelin does an excellent job of finding bad casings and rejecting them. About 6 weeks ago I experienced my first retread failure in 8 years just 300 miles after mounting four fresh XZE's on my front drive axle. I found a Pomp's Tire shop in Waukegan, IL, bought a very nice used virgin Michelin drive tire for $125.00 and went on my way. My Michelin shop gave me a full credit for the retread service as well as the casing (which I had owned since new).
Good service IMHO.
Here's the casing they rejected...

These retreads cost me $147.00 each on my casings....8 tires for $1176.00 plus mounting. They should last 300K plus. My last set of Michelin retreads on GOODYEAR casings lasted 440,000 miles... Goodyears are not known for keeping retreads on but they must have done some improving on their quality.
I have 4 fairly new Michelin XDN retreads on my drives right now and my present steer tires and two old michelin steer tires will be retreaded for my drives this fall.
I guess you know where I stand on expensive tires...Last edited: May 7, 2011

I installed equal in my last 8 retreads and the ride is now smooooth.... $12.50 per tire.

I thought you put that stuff in your coffee. How many packets per tire?

Am I reading this wrong or are you comparing the fuel mileage numbers on SS's to recap duals? Or virgin SS's to recap SS's?
