This is pure BS!
Read below.
Beat me to it!...
Knowing the place who is doing the recapping is the key to all this. The worst thing you can do is buy one from a TS not knowing where it came from.Yup Thanks this. -
One 10oz... don't use the pink packets....
Here's something else we can discuss... I was going to buy some Centra-matics for all three axles on my pete. i DID have a pair on the steer axles 8 years ago but a tire shop damaged one when they mounted the wheels so I pulled 'em off and put in Equal...
Anywho... my tire shop sez that the C-matics are so small in diameter that they do little good if you have a tire that has a balance problem out in the tread area... they just can't handle a larger imbalance.
Equal, on the other hand, is always right next to the tread and you can do always add more if needed... and it is cheaper.
Kinda makes sense to me... I sure am happy I installed it on my drives... I got rid of a vibration I have had since I bought the truck 8 years ago. -
since i'm now pulling orange trailers and they are governed at 60
I may jut buy a set of caps myself.
Krooser, how much they selling those for if you don't have casings? I have four casings but two of them are still on my truck and I can't be down that long -
They will add $35.00/casing for the lo-pro 24.5's...
-
where you getting them from in WI?
i'm running lp 22.5's on this truck. that may be cheaper then schneiders national account -
Bauer Built... I do biz in Waukesha but they have several locations in WI/MN/IA/NE...
They deliver right to my shop and pick-up my next casings, too. They even hauled some of my old tires that I probably won't ever retread... -
Milwaukee is my home town. I'm still there alot
-
Bauer is off of Sunset Drive on Progress St... on the south side of Waukesha. IT's one of their retread plants so they offer some quick turnarounds.
Ask for Ernie... -
I used to swear at recaps. That was before I knew better.
Buy quality virgin tires and take care of them (maintain proper inflation, don't run over stuff, etc...), send them to a quality recapping facility, and you shouldn't have any problems.
Buy caps on anonymous cases, capped by an anonymous facility, and you're asking for problems...especially if you neglect to take care of them.
I ran into another O/O not too long ago that bought 8 new virgin drive tires. Before the nipples even wore off, he had 2 blow out. He got what he paid for...the cheapest tires the shop was selling. By the time he buys 10-15 "cheap" tires, he could have bought a set of 8 quality tires...not to mention the damage done to his fenders when the tires blew.
Funny thing was, he was cursing recaps for their lack of reliability.
There are a lot of rumors and bad information floating around, but you have to remember that most of the time you are going to get what you pay for. Start with a quality tire, take care of it while it's on your truck, and send it to a quality facility for capping when the time comes, and you should have no problems. Buy cheap tires, whether they are virgin or anonymous caps, you'll likely get what you paid for.
