Took ur advice and went to my local shop. My CAC system held pressure fine. But then they checked the turbo and said it was doing around 15-20 psi.
I drove with this noise around half of year and dont wanna do it anymore... If turbo blows up somewhere on the road i can just throw away the engine, so on monday they'll puttin a new turbo. $2900 The Lowest I could find here on west coast.![]()

Also was wondering those turbo blankets on ebay for $100, do they rly help or improve perfomance, mpg? Anyone using those?
-
The biggest problem these turbos have is heat. It causes carbon buildup which leads to failure. That is why Holset recommends you let the turbo cool down for at least 3 minutes. I think a blanket and exhaust wrap make all that worse.
-
You are correct. Turbo wrap and a blanket are to keep the temps lower under the hood. Which is good for your hoses, belts, electrical, but also causes the turbo to hold in the heat and almost double the temps on the unit itself.
As for 700k on the factory turbo, I'd say you were lucky it lasted that long. Detroit go about ever 200k and some CAT's manage 500k before replacing. I'd say that $ will be well invested in a turbo. Cuz if u don't do it now, I see you having to add a tow bill to the cost plus a more expensive turbo since at the point it goes out, you won't be able to chose where u buy it at. -
Sounds about like my truck minus the noise. It just runs out of air sometimes and can barely get out of it's own way. The last time I drove it I had issues doing 45mph to the site. The return trip picked up to 55mph. I've been off for almost a week so hopefully they fixed it.

This must be for the new motors only. I had well over 700k on my turbo and the only thing that went out was the thrust washer. Matter of fact that turbo is sitting under the bench in my garage for a core charge if needed.
-
Which motor do you have???
-
Cat mechanical.

You also can check clamps and duct work around the turbocharger, and around the cooler area that goes in front of the radiator.
