I had the MiFi 2200 (3g) from Verizon. Verizon undoubtably has the best coverage area nationwide. I switched over and paid full retail for the Mi Fi 4g model. I would only buy the (Novatel) MiFi model since I had such great success with the 3g one. Sincce I have only hd it a week I have had some down issues in areas, loss of signal an more, just for 4g service in SOME cities. I do not know if tornados have caused some isues or not. Have I made the right choice?

I dont have the 4g mifi but i have the 3g and i googled the verizons internet and I did find that they only have 4g in major cities. Its doesnt have as much coverage as the 3g but they are saying that over time they will be adding more 4g networks. Thats one reason I decided to go with the 3g and also I have a cousin in ontario ca that just bought ther new thunderbolt phone and he bought it for the 4g and the 4g only worked in downtown la!!!!

Last week, Verizon's 4G network went down. All 4G devices went to a limited 3G or mostly 1xEVDO. There is an issue with the radio when in a "border" area. I turn the 4G off in those areas, but that is with the Thunderbolt.

I just bought a Thunderbolt and haven't had a chance to use it in a 4G area yet.

I also have an Overdrive from Sprint for 3G/4G service for my computers and other devices. I can say that Sprint actually has pretty good coverage and throughput rates on their network. The down side to Sprint is that they are on WiMax for the moment. I have read that the carrier's hardware is the same for WiMax and LTE and only requires a software switch for them to go to LTE, which I would expect eventually. The bad part is that it will require new hardware on the user's end.

The real problem is the data caps that these companies are starting to put in place. It's a pretty douchy thing to do considering how much we spend with them. Just when we get enough speed to do things that normal people do with the internet, these ##### limit us another way. It doesn't take very long to blow through 5gb on a 4G connection.

Back when I was under the illusion that I had unlimited data from Sprint I could use 25gb per month pretty easily. Then they sent me a letter informing me that even though I was on an "unlimited" contract, if I continued to "abuse" their network, they would terminate my contract.

This is why the ATT/TMobile deal is bad for the consumer...instead of 1 of the 4 major players deciding that they will compete by offering truly unlimited data, soon there will be one less chance that someone will offer it. Boo!

I talked to Verizon the other day and they said the 4g network won't be up and running full force for another year or so.

I've got the 5spot 3G and love it, when I use it.

I pay for 10gb a month and so far i have done 12gb this month....problem I am having is when I enter a 4g network it works great, but when I leave that area the 4g MiFi shuts off instead of just changing over to 3g service...my 3g MiFi never missed a beat, nor did I lose conection as often as I do with this one:biggrin_25510:

The problem is streaming video. A person watching Netflix puts a huge load on the tower and messes up everything for everyone else on that tower. Some of the Pilots and Loves that have wifi with "Wandering WIFI" prove my point. At some of their locations, they have those routers hooked up to Sprint air cards. If you happen to have a Sprint air card as well, your service slows to a crawl when that parking lot fills up, because the drivers using the wifi aren't subject to or concerned with data caps.. Log back on at 3am and suddenly you are at full speed again.

I think Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile, and the grandfathered Verizon accounts take the right approach. They throttle you after you hit the cap to 256 kbps. That's plenty fast enough to browse, and even watch ten minute youtube clips, but useless for Netflix or Hulu, which put a huge load on everyone else's bandwidth, because of the long sustained download.

Actually, I stream a slingbox to my computer. SInce I went over my 10gb cap, my stream speed has gone from 100-200kbps to 300-400,since I have gone over my mintes, are they trying to make more money? They get $10 for every 1GB after my 10gb cap?
