If The new technology(eobr's,,,gps,,,and such) is increasing saftey....why is it so many newer drivers can't actually drive
It happens every day,,,you're moving on down the road at the legal limit (70 mph here) and some speed restricted ####### moves into the lane your in just as you start around them. The object they are passing,or the vehicle that is entering the hiway or whatever is still 1/2 mile away or so...but in a move of absolute brilliance...these fools...ignoring what is in their mirror(if they look at all) move over so close you smoke all18 to keep from hitting them...how are electronic logs and such gonna get FOOLS out from behind the wheel? I mean some kid who looks like they just started shaving can't hold one lane and maybe just got out of the companys CDL mill, actually thinks they are being safe by doing this? WTF!!!! that guy just cost me 400 buck per tire, for a bunch of flatspotted tires. If you say something they act as if its your fault that they're ignorant. It's getting ridiculous...instead of all these new regs...why not set enforceable minimum training standards.....a 1 year apprenticeship would be a great start

Ok two things, first if you want to stop this kind of stuff you need to call it in when you see it happening. Second, if you have a bunch of flatspotted tires you are part of the problem.
Pay attention out there, watch what is going on. Is that truck going 63 creeping closer to the guy going 62. Yep he's probably going to do something stupid, keep a safe following distance and let him do something stupid. When he does report it. Don't just throw yourself at him at 70 and call him an idiot because you flatpotted your tires.Tazz Thanks this. -
ps, when you dynamite your brakes the OER records a sudden deceleration. That problem may be addressed by your safety department.
-
I see Meltom has missed the point..... Read his post again, then read your response.

reading isn't my strong suit, and comprehension is even lower than that.
-
And I still think he's part of the problem. recognize the situation, prevent yourself from being involved in it.

Spoken like a true "No Driving Office Dweller"!
Unless you don't have all of that electronic garbage on your truck and are your own safety dept.!
Leave it to a guy that dispatches these amature truck drivers all day to attempt to defend their complete lack of ability and courtesy by attempting to make it the fault of the driver that did nothing wrong!
Again I say...Spoken like a "No Driving Office Dweller!"
REDD Thanks this. -
Agreed, and I love it. Except I don't place blame, just recognize the situation and try to learn from it. If you want to keep paying for tires that's great. I wouldn't want to spend the money. Wait, I did place blame, my bad.

Soooo.....Every time I see an idiot in a 35 mile an hour company clunker within a half a mile of the truck in front of him I need to slow down and wait for him to get a clue?
These idiots that do that give no warning and no signal and yet YOU still think the guy that got cut off was somehow to blame? -
Two things....no OER on an '85 W900 and I was talking about some one moving over unnecessarily early despite faster traffic already passing them...in all 3 instances this past week there was no reason for that driver to do what was done...there was plenty of room for them to move over after I had passed....in one instance the other driver put me onto the left shoulder as I was already halfway past him...the truck he wanted to pass was 1/2 mile away. Calling his 800# put me in touch with a person who ....despite me being repectful and just trying to alert them to a problem...told me essentially to mind my own business and hung up.
All that from a company who calls themselves a "super carrier"...nothin super about ignoring your drivers poor skills so you can get that 4500 bucks for training him. The other incidents were other carriers...same result. If these are the new "safety aware" drivers,we are screwed. Just because you can enroll in a driving school does not mean you are capable of driving for a living. Just because your paperworks correct...doesn't mean your safe
