Unlike some...I do read the situation. However...if you read the post you will see the word unnecessarily as in there was no reason to change lanes at that moment other than an I DONT GIVE A #### attitude...one of these geniuses actually replied "well ya got brakes on that ptece of sh1t so use em"

I feel ya, I get to talk to "those guys" all day long (in the office) and typically I hear back that I don't know that I'm talking about because I don't drive (except for in my car). I appreciate what you do and how you do it, live and learn man.

I would agree that a CDL does not a driver make. Hence the reason I expect everyone including SWIFT,CR England, W900 Inc, and KYBig Jim Inc to try and commit vehicular suicide on my front bumper.
And yes we are in agreement training standards should be much higher. However it is not only those big companies that will do it, and if your honest you'll admit that. Never had a large car decide he had to get up that hill two minutes faster than JB?
C'mon now tell the truth. -
Being new I am sure I am missing something, but I do not understand how a truck going 62mph moving in front of a truck going 70mph would cause the 70mph truck to lock up and "smoke" the tires? It is after all, only a difference of 8mph. Sure you will have to brake somewhat firmly to slow down, but you are only having to lose 8mph of speed............
I can see it making sense if the 62mph truck is moving into the space you already occupy, but simply moving into a space that you are approaching???
I'm sure I am missing something. Maybe someone can explain it to me.............. -
Tazz...I don't travel in the groups either, during the two years I ran second seat to my Father and a couple other family members, learning this profession, that was something they always made clear. In a pack of vehicles one idiot can kill the rest of the folks around them. Lessons learned, friend, can last forever. Latley the problem has been an overall DON'T CARE attitude on the part of these folks who run freight.
Most seen in newer drivers who have no idea what they are doing is gonna get someone killed. It bothers me when the attitude of the GMP (general motoring public) is directed against the profession I chose almost 3 decades ago because some 62 mph moron is riding thier butt in a work zone or cutting them off because they think company policy (move into the left lane whenever you see another vehicle on a ramp,ect...no matter how far off) is a law. I understand all classes of drivers have problems,,but it is most obvious in the newer folks -
Try to slow a 80,000 pound vehicle down from 70 mph to 62 mph in a split second..... Then come back & tell us what you think.
-
85 model truck 92 model trailer trying to lose 8 mph in less than 50 ft loaded to 75-76k gross going down hill non antilock brakes you can smoke em quick if someone doesnt repect the space in front of your truck...4 wheelers or 18's

I have never said that it was just company trucks....But in my experience it's a problem that is MUCH more common with big training company trucks than any others.
I haven't smoked a brake in quite a few years and I usually try to leave about a football field of space between me and whoever is in front of me...That having been said, The problem of these idiots pulling out like that is common enough to be worthy of discussion but not common enough to be something that you expect to happen.
How do you compensate for it?
By never passing anyone?
By slowing down to within a MPH or two of their speed? (not gonna happen)
I can't take anything seriously that some office guy says that doesn't seem to understand the difference between driving around in his car and running a truck! -
Black KW900....####...that cabover brings back memories...started out driving a 68
freightshaker single bunk (dads truck) bought my uncles k100 3 yrs later...been rollin since then. My trucks have hoods now. Got into my buddy's 77 transtar the other day to deliver his load...that was a blast from the past...aint gonna make a habit of it though -
So I hear this all the time, but I just don't get it. Seriously, whats the difference who's speaking to you about your driving behaviors?
