ok i know for some people they don't but my buddy gave his 2 weeks notice because of some of the REALLY STUPID STUFF they do and tried to pull on him and when he did they told him to go ahead and clean his truck out.Now i know the reason they probably done that is because they have a surplus of drivers because they lost their glass account, but my point is he was trying to give them a notice and they treated him like he was useless, they could have let him finish his 2 weeks and let him go on his way.But thats ok because it worked out for him because he is coming to work for the same company i am at and he will be much happier so if anybody is planning on quiting this sorry company be warned that more than likely they will let you go as soon as you try to do the right thing and give notice.![]()

Losing that glass account did not cause a "surplus" of drivers...those specialized guys (and gals) can also haul steel and lumber.
There is more to this story...
No company is a perfect fit for everybody, but there IS a reason he was told to "go ahead". -
re-read what i wrote......there is NOTHING MORE TO THIS STORY just because you can't handle what i am saying as TRUTH does not mean there is more to the story. I hired in with this guy along with about 30 others and he was the last to leave,he gave maverick 110%,we spoke daily on how things were going for each other he was a great person to have to work for you.Maverick just can't handle people quitting on them so they got a sour attitude about it and let him go and i beg to differ, there were alot of glass guys misplaced and left maverick scrambling with all of those drivers trying to find freight for them, and they just dont have the freight to keep that many drivers busy.

And how do you know it is truth? Because your buddy said so? That's like believing everything you hear on the CB radio!
djtrype, sewerman, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
FYI,
I quit Maverick a few years back (stayed gone 2 years)...I was in the Specialized division (not glass though).
I gave my notice, and was treated the same as I had always been...right up until my wife showed up in Laurinburg to pick me up. My FM (who I didn't really like) was calm and cool through the whole thing.
2 years later, Maverick calls me (I wasn't even looking for a job) and asks if I want to come back...I said "Where is the bus ticket?" (all of this documented right here on this forum if you wanna look it up)
I know more about that glass account than most drivers, even though i haven't hauled a load of glass in about 5 years...I live right in the heart of it, the guy that owns the company that now has the account is an old friend of my Dad and uncle (both old drivers...from the Metler days).
Sure...it caused some tension, lots of drivers concerned about their jobs calling in...most of them probably not in a good mood about it either. The point is...there were certainly sour attitudes on both sides. Scrambling for freight...yes...but given a little time they would have worked it out (they do have the freight...if they didn't...they wouldn't be hiring drivers)
I rehired in with 15 guys (all experienced drivers) when I came back 2 years ago...I'm the only one still here, and that is not Mavericks fault...its just the nature of the business. Stuff happens...its best to ride it out.
I'm sorry your friend got caught up in the mess...but "the mess" isn't Mavericks fault, it happens to all companies at one time or another. (often several times)
That glass account...a bit of history on it...
1980 (about as far back as I can remember)...Metler had the account.
Early 90's...Schneider bought Metler out of that account.
2007-8 (can't remember which)...Maverick bought Schneider Specialized
2010...Dan Moore gets the account.
Who's next? Its anybody's guess. Its just the nature of glass hauling and I said it when I first heard maverick was buying Schneider Specialized..."Maverick won't last long hauling glass"...and thats not a slam against Maverick, its just a fact (IMO)...glass hauling requires a certain "flexibility" that just doesn't fit the type of company Maverick is. Schneider didn't have it either...a lot of the good freight went to the likes of F.A.S.T (Flanary and Sons Trucking...also friends of my Dad and uncle)...
You see...the glass hauling industry developed right there where I live, and Metler developed it. I've lived there for 38 years, my Dad and uncle hauled glass for years (my uncle is still in the industry, but not a driver)...I've seen a lot in those years, and learned a thing or 2. (you'll notice I don't haul glass anymore...if I owned my own truck, I would consider buying a double drop glass trailer to go with it....a little known fact, those jumbo loads pay for the deadhead miles too)
Put simply...its not the trucking company's fault (none of them)...its the glass companies. AGC (formerly AFG), Pilkington, Guardian, etc...they are very hard to deal with, its that simple!Last edited: May 16, 2011
vmaggs, sewerman and fancypants Thank this. -
Well I know sometimes this could happen, but where's your buddy & why can't he tell the story 1st hand? Are u with him 24/7? Usually when a company tells u to go ahead & clean out trk when u give notice it's probably somethings occurred that you weren't there to witness and they just didn't want him there no more is my guess. Like I said anything could of happened & unless there's 1st hand knowledge it could be anybodies guess.Last edited: May 15, 2011

I think it is funny that a person that is not affiliated with a company is saying that they suck cause their buddy got fired from them.....
Erich Thanks this. -
as a matter of fact YES because he said so,you would just have to know this guy to know how good of a person he is,he told me everything leading up to why he was turning in his notice and told me he would call me back after he turned it in to let me know how it went, and when he did this is what happened. He wasn't the only one done that way either we all kept up with each other the whole time there.
-
well if he was a member of this forum i am sure he would tell it first hand and no i am not with him 24/7 smart ### but we stay in close contact on a daily basis
-
i used to be affiliated with them but I GOT SMART IN A HURRY and left and went on to bigger and better things.
