It has it's ups and downs but overall Con-way Freight is a good place to work in my opinion - been here 8 years and I'm not leaving anytime soon.

Only thing I'll point out is you don't get hired specifically as a line-haul driver. We run one seniority board so you bid and get work assigned based off seniority - could be pretty much anything depending on the size and type of terminal you work at.

thanx for the reply jakebrake , the person i interviewed with said there is about 90 drivers out of the terminal and said the most of the newer drivers have been started on line haul.sounds like they are real strait forward with employees and have great company training and what kind of take home pay should i expect if i get hired this week?just wondering if what they told me is true? cuz ity sounds great to me!

I don't know about take home pay - too many variables. We have first year drivers that say they'll be around $65,000 but we're busier than most so maybe more like 50 or 55..

Rapid4b, hey worked 4 conway 4 a year til laid off. As stated (depending on size of your terminal) be prepared to work day or night, line haul or city, dock, yard jockey day or FAC. Great job, will work you hard, long hours, pretty good pay. As with anywhere these days in this economy just be ready for anything, especially if a new driver. If you can make it the first 2-3 years pick up a good "newer guy" bid you should be past the threats of layoffs should they come again. And again these layoffs very, my area saw a lot, but once they were over several people went back and as far as I know they are flourishing. So good luck!

Can somebody answer a question for me? Is Conway freight union? I would be out of Chicago if that makes a difference.

Con-way Freight is 100% non-union across the board. The company is vocal about being non-union but that is what it is - as a driver with 8 years at CCX/Freight I don't feel there is any need for a union. I'm neither pro or con, but can say I'm paid well for everything I do and would prefer Con-way Freight remains non-union in all areas. We always hear Chicago is "talking" but that's where it ends man. I'm in the Philly area and we don't want it.. Hope that helps man..
